Great find while visiting the area for fly fishing. A terrific country pub with excellent food. Between us we had several of their Parma’s as well as the salads. All were highly rated and take note they are big country serves. 

Staff were super friendly and the meals were quick despite it being a busy night. 

Definitely the best meals we found in the Alexandra, Thornton, Eildon area. Highly recommend and we will be back.

Great meals and friendly staff

I stayed overnight at the Corner Hotel as part of a multi-day tour along the Victorian Bike Trail. The room was basic but a very comfortable bed. The staff were very friendly and helpful with bike storage (locked up in the beer garden under camera surveillance). Food on site was good pub fare.

Excellent service and staff in comfortable rooms

Both had the flat head tails with salad, fished cooked perfectly, vinegar dressing excellent. Both selected desserts were really good. Suggest booking, place quite busy on a cold Sunday evening. Very good selection of beers. Will return

Break from Melbourne

Good bistro. The hotel has been restored to a point but could use more TLC.
Friendly staff. The outside rooms have quite a lot of truck and car noise. Had to turn the fridge off in our room off over night as it was noisy. Nice verandah and Breakfast was supplied. Would recommend ensuite room. Not an easy access place.

Classic pub stay

Booked a one night stay here while on the road doing the tourist drive.  Nothing in the town was open, Pub had no-one to greet us, sent to the bottle-o to get keys, no dining, and were told we could only get fast food takeaway or TV dinners from the IGA.  Quite shocked to say the least.  

In the Food and Bev Managers defence he did try to call on the day we were due to check in - but ummmm that's kinda a bit late.  We were in transit with phone's in flight mode and he never tried to call back!  He sent an email which went into junk mail so upon our arrival we turned up to a fully locked and closed establishment.  Only jagged it at a guess to ask the bottle-o bloke what the go was.  Everyone else staying there echoed the same sentiment - like a wtf moment when we all realised we couldn't get a meal, a beer, or any service.  No fridge in room to even put any drinks.  Arrgghh.  

Could use a common fridge for a microwave dinner that was in the breakfast room - but that had all the breakfast gear in it and we were lucky to fit 6 drinks in it, if you got there first.  

Breakfast was a let down.  All condiments had been used by others doing microwave dinners the night before in their rooms because nothing was open (not their fault either), cups and plates etc used, and we couldn't wash anything up to use it because the rest of the bar and kitchen area was alarmed for movement.    

I get it that they have no staff after Covid etc, but honesty goes a long way and it would have been really nice to get a phone call when we booked the place to tell us what to expect so we could choose to cancel and stay elsewhere vs be better prepared upon arrival.

Everyone else with us that night were on the road like us and were also venting frustration with the situation.

I don't think it's fair to take a booking and people's money, with no information afforded at the time of booking that you're arriving to a place with no food, drinks, serve yourself breakfast (if you're lucky to get crockery) and literally the whole town completely closed on the day you arrive.

Customers should be given the option to understand the situation, then book if it suits their needs, not the other way around.  I have no problems supporting businesses getting back up from Covid, but this felt very deceitful and not right because the brochure and online advertising for this accommodation upon booking definitely did not fit reality or what we walked in to.

Felt Duped

Dining room is clean and the food really good. The service was excellent. Disappointed that there is NO disabled toilet. Hubby is blind and using a toilet for sighted persons is difficult. Schnitzels are huge.

Family Lunch

We were in Alexandra for cricket and several of us stayed the night at the Corner Hotel, which seemed like the only functioning one in town. Our room, number 6 was on the corner and gave access to the balcony. The room was basic, a comfortable double bed and Free to air TV. A creaky corridor led to the bathrooms with a single toilet and a single shower. We helped our selves to a continental breakfast in the morning.

The dining room was busy mid-week. The bar had a few patrons and my partners and I had a drink there. Outside we had a few beers. I like the Hargraves Hill Pale Ale but I preferred their IPA.

Budget and just right for us

We visited for dinner last night and had the roast lamb (plenty of other delish options to choose from though) followed by the Orange and almond cake soused in gin! Staff and service was friendly, efficient and welcoming - the publican stopped by for a chat. Highly recommended.

Yes, we love this place for a great meal and excellent wine selection. Staff are very attentive and freindly.  That's a good start, but the lovely renovations add a special touch to the whole eating out experience.  You can see your food being prepared in the centralized kitchen and yet the noise is very low, almost unnoticeable.  Highly recommend the house white from NZ   - Sauvignon blanc.

We said we'd be back

When I travel I always try to get hotel accommodation and this place has it all. Rooms upstairs, cold drinks and great food. The staff were great and we got to spend the night on the upstairs balcony. The windows to the rooms open, air-conditioned and has a TV in the room. I would recommend keeping the hotel accommodation alive.
