We booked a New Years Eve dinner a month or so beforehand, and were looking forward to it. Also, the girl taking our reservation stated that there would be a live band playing on NYE - but this was not the case. We arrived at 7pm and left around 9.15pm, and no sign of a band. 
Now for the food - we had to wait over an hour for our food, and it looked like the dining area was less than half full. There were "RESERVED" signs on many tables, but they were still vacant when we left. Maybe the restaurant wasn't capable of a full service to a booked out venue (chef problems?), or wasn't in a position to cope with that many...not sure?! 
After our food arrived, we soon realized this to be the case. The battered flathead was barely acceptable, with the batter being not right and the fish tasting slightly 'fishy', suggesting not a fresh catch.
The major disappointment was the steak - our friend ordered the "Butcher's Block" from the Specials board, a 300g rump steak plus sides. When it arrived FINALLY, it was NOT 300g, nor a medium-rare rump! Upon tasting, the so-called steak was thin, cooked medium and full of gristle......and as the customer is an ex-chef, he complained! Upon complaining, the young waiter issued a refund (plus surcharge) within 60secs, which reflects their obvious error and realization of them being caught out.
Just before leaving, the Manager, we assume, came to apologize for the error, stating that the last rump was served just prior to our order.....but they did NOT inform us, or offer any possible solution/change of order. Maybe they presumed we would not notice, or know any difference, not sure?
This all reflects poor management practices, slackness on the kitchen staff and unprofessional restaurant conduct. We will not be eating there again.

Very disappointing NYE dinner.

What a lovely hotel. Friendly staff and very accommodating. Our room, whilst a little small, was clean and an amazing balcony view. 
Private bathroom adjacent to the room, nice hot shower too! Dinner bought to our room, so we could enjoy the views of Victor Harbour.

Enjoyable night away

3 star accommodation, but excellent. We had room 1 bedroom with queensize bed ensuite and doors leading to balcony, also lounge area with foldout b and doors to balcony. Bed was excellent, sofa bed was ok. Room cleanliness was excellent. View was lovely and only very short walk to centre of town

Great Hotel 

Just got back from a 3 day stay here . We had the soa room with the 4 poster bed it was lovely and very much in keeping with the hotels heritage . The staff are so friendly and welcoming ,we would recommend this as a place to stay and unwind in victor harbour . The food was delicious too . Would definitely come back  again .

Good location by the railway crossing so you can see Steam Ranger come into the station. Great food, good menu, great service, and an all-round lovely place to have a leisurely lunch. Large carpark at the side and back of the hotel.

If I could give 0 I would!  Dreadful place, especially room 11 which is appalling. Tiny room with worn and battered furniture. Paintwork chipped and dirty and all electrics run from extension leads. No staff in the hotel on Monday or Tuesday so self check in and therefore no option to complain about room! Access was via a fire escape in the car park and I only stayed because the sheets appeared clean and at peak holiday time there was no other option in Victor Harbour.  Mugs in tray were dirty - thankfully I had my own. Wi-Fi non existent apart from in the corridor outside. My travel agent will be claiming back the cost of this room as it is not fit for purpose! Shame on you Anchorage Hotel for selling this as acceptable accommodation.

Avoid at all cost

We arrived at this hotel and booked in. Later we found that there was a problem with our booking. After speaking to Henry and Tristan the problem was solved and all was good. We then had dinner and wine at the restaurant and could not speak highly enough of all the staff. Great place to stay. Right on the water. Amazing service.

Amazing staff!

We stayed the night at the Anchorage and ate in the Bistro. The accommodation and dining were both excellent.
The owner and staff could not do enough for us. The food was tasty and well presented. All up this was a really nice stay and dining experience in a typical Australian pub. Big thank you to the owner and staff.

Really enjoyable stay and dining experience

Great food with good views. Loves the pate dish which came with a whole lot of extras which is rare. Perfect lunch dish! Others should learn… many pate dishes just come with that. This had quite a few condiments. Great building too and by the ocean.

Can I live here?

First let me tell the positive points of this hotel - it's location is good and it's fairly cheap. But you get what you pay for, and this place is in sad condition. Everything is out-of-date and frankly shabby. It could be a lovely place because of its history but it needs a top-to-bottom overhaul to bring it up to standards. When I arrived the manager casually told me my room was on the second floor, and didn't ask if I needed help with my bags (I'm 66 years old and would have appreciated some help). I had booked the smallest room and wasn't expecting much based on the photos, but even so I was disappointed.  There was one - just one - electrical outlet in the entire room, so everything was plugged into it, including the refrigerator, heater, TV, etc. During the night I noticed the room was getting a little cold, and discovered that the heater wasn't generating heat any more. In fact everything except the two overhead lights no longer worked. Since it was very late I didn't bother calling the service number given to me (the front desk closed around 6 pm) but reported the power outage to the manager when I checked out in the morning. Apparently a fuse to my room blew, not surprising given the outdated wiring and the number of appliances plugged into a single outlet. The manager wasn't particularly conciliatory, and didn't offer any discount to make up for the inconvenience. I guess it was to be expected because nothing about this hotel measured up. They're planning on building a brand-new modern wing next to the hotel next year, so I'm guessing they're saving all their resources for that project and just doing the bare minimum of upkeep with the existing hotel. I definitely would not recommend this hotel.
