The stay at the Hotel Gasthof Islitzer was very nice and pleasant. After our hike, we got a room for a short time. The room was small, but well furnished and clean. Nice and very friendly staff.

Very good stay

What a find! This inn has been in the family for 400 years (it's been renovated since then). Yes, the floorboards creak and (our) bathroom was small, but it was comfortable and cozy. The food was delicious. Breakfasts are worth getting up for between housemade jams and locally produced eggs and meats.  Dinners are large (you could easily share entrees) and the desserts worth ordering.  Our soups were a little salty, but other than that, very impressed with the quality and choice of meals.  The Gasthof is close to many trailheads. In many of the rooms, if you open the windows you can hear the rushing stream.  I've gotten jaded by years of business travel.  What an unexpected treat to not just meet the owner and family, but get to see - and talk with - them daily.  It's worth a repeat visit, which we look forward to.

The Real Deal; will restore your faith in Gemuetlichkeit

The family owned Gasthof Islitzer in the East Tyrol is one of the best I have encountered in over 30 years of hiking in the Alps.  Located well off the beaten path at the end of a side valley in Austria's East Tirol it is close to the mountain trails and well tended by the Berger family.  Comfortable traditional rooms plus outstanding food including wild game.

An Outstanding Alpine Gasthof

Nice hostel with unpalatable rooms and bathroom, small but fine. Very quiet location, but you can make different walks to the huts. The kitchen really surprised us and enchanted us with a delicious meal in the evening. Very nice staff and the beautiful atmosphere rounded off the visit! Tip: book top rooms! 👍🏻 Tip2: ask the host for routes for the walks, top information! 👌🏻 Also, a ride to the beautiful Linz is worth the 30min drive, especially on Saturday morning to the farmer's market.

Nice hostel

Amazingly clean and modern room with great views. Not far from Virgen, the town is very quiet. The guesthouse is on a working farm however (at least with a couple of animals), and the associated smells are bothersome if your room is near the barn!

Quaint Guesthouse in Austria

A small room with an even smaller bathroom. There is a balcony. Breakfast is fine. But nothing more. In the evening, restaurant operation with a small menu. My pan was very clear. Kitchen performance is average. Wi-Fi is free. Parking is free. Staff are friendly, but some are poorly trained or not at all. When checking out, someone from outside had to be called by phone because no one knew how to use the card reader.

Suitable as a starting point for hiking

The hotel was our starting point for the Huetturne in the area. The dinner was spicy (wild) and the rooms were adequate. The breakfast also suited, so we can highly recommend the hotel.

Starting point for the Huettentour

Apart from the fantastic quiet location, the surrounding mountain huts and the magnificent views - Bernhard Berger and his family or team make the stay at the Hotel Islitzer a first-minute respite. The rooms are quiet and very clean, the breakfast buffet is extremely varied and partly with products of their own making, including rides, if you've exhausted yourself from misjudging the way down the mountain - everything in general is definitely worth a visit to this team and the house.
