The best bit about this hostel truly is the staff. They were absolutely fabulous. Gave all sorts of useful tips about things to do, how to get there and so on, and they were just so friendly it was like you were a part of the Lagoa family.

At first I was a little skeptical about the location in terms of closeness to the sights - but the bus network really is extensive and it really was very easy to get around - the stop is very close to the hostel so getting around was a breeze. Plus if you are feeling particularly energetic you can walk to Cristo Redentor - the park entrance is about 1 km away - but the hike up is quite steep (obviously!). Or you can get the bus and train - the staff will tell you exactly what bus etc to get there. They give you all the options for good vantage points of the city - thanks Hermann for the tips about Urca and Niteroi...!

The cooking facilities are good and there's a supermarket really close. Drinks and small snacks available at the hostel and the price is cheaper than even the supermarket for things like soft drinks and chocolates. 

And the air conditioning in the room works really well (so important in 36 degree Rio!).  Plus the lockers are a decent size.

Breakfast was bread or rolls and ham and cheese - they've got a sandwich maker so you can grill a hot sandwich if you want. Coffee was actually real (thank you so much - I can't be doing instant!)

Only criticism was the wifi was a bit hit and miss - according to the staff that's a problem on iPhone and iPad but not on other devices. I was still able to do what I needed and they have a desktop computer there too you can use if desperate.

Great place, lovely and quiet, and I would definitely stay there again!

Great place to stay in Rio

It's a beautiful and quiet place, well-located (it was very easy to transport from there), close to the lagoon and the Cristo Redentor.

Lindo with excellent service.

The overlapping beds are on three levels while the ceiling is not very high. So the bottom beds are almost at ground level and the upper ones don't have much space (you have to lower your head to sit down). In addition the upper mattresses are twice as thick to save more space. It's not very comfortable. It's better to have one of the two beds below. There's a bed plug and lockers that close with unprovided locks. The common space is very good. A TV and sofas, books, an electric piano and a free guitar in service (I'm afraid no one used them during my stay on the internet). The best I've seen since I've been back to Brazil.

Avoid the Upper Bed

It's the worst experience of my life. It's a fatiguing structure, both the furniture and accessories are broken, loose and dirty inside. The bathroom lacks hot water (literally!). At night, the furniture in the room vibrates as the cars pass by preventing you from sleeping.

Don't open that door!

A nice hostel, simple but clean, with warm welcome. The location is ideal for exploring the city, at the foot of the Corcovado and halfway between the legendary beaches and the wonderful neighborhood of Santa Teresa. I recommend for a few days a visit to this sublime city!

Nice place to shine on Rio

The best guesthouse I've ever made in Rio!Everything is fine!The presence of the Cristredemptor, from Lagoa Lake is 5 minutes' walk away!Good for runners!The staff is great!and say that Fabio,the owner of Lagoaguesthouse is an extra person!👍👍👍

Super three weeks stay at the Lagoa Guest House, nothing to blame, very welcoming staff, available if you need advice, reservation for a tour... clean room and bathroom.
