A beautiful view of the Hostel, the bad thing is that to get to the Hostel that is at the top of the favela you have to go through stairs that seem eternal and a climb that liquefies you. The best wave of people and very nice environment. If you banking the climb is perfectly located. By those stairs that I show in the photos you climb. Let's be fair up one of the views as well.

A six-star view!

I had a great stay at Gabriels place. I had as usually not planned anything and requested a booking when i landed in Rio. Gabriel answered almost immediately and organized so i could arrive right away. Gabriel came every morning with fresh bread and to make coffee and have a chat. Great way to start the day. And yes the view is as great as in the photos! Gabriel is really helpful with suggesting things to do and visit in and around Rio and will try to answer any question you might have. He is from this area and full of local knowledge that he gladly shares with you! The apartment is simple but clean, and i really liked the neighborhood and the neighbors. The name of the neighborhood is Chapeu Mangeira and it certainly show a different side of Rio and offers a different vibe than the more famous cites. Get ready to ride a motorcycle taxi up the hillside, dance at the local funk party well known in Rio or simply enjoy a beer or a meal at the Boteco. Its also a super pluss that you are in walking distance of everything you need; supermarket, metro, buss, beach, shopping etc. I strongly recomend a stay at Gabriels who will give a true carioca experience! The perfect view to start your day with

We were received with open arms in Leme. Gabriel met us and walked up the steps with us. It was quite a climb ( approx 200 steps) but once you get up there, WAUW. An amazing view over Leme and Copacabana beach took our breath away. Gabriel had kindly made us some lovely tuna sandwiches. We felt home after the first five minutes. Every day Gabriel brought us some fresh bread and told us the places to go and not to go. He arranged for us to go to a match in maracana stadium. During our stay he helped us arrange different activities and went above and beyond for us. During our trip, one of our group fell sick and had to go to the hospital in the middle of the night. Gabriel arranged a private taxi to bring us to the hospital in Copacabana and kept in touch to see how she was doing. I think you get the point, Gabriel is an amazing host! In the beginning you might feel a bit scared or nervous in the favela. But trust us, after the first day you will feel this is the safest place in whole Rio, filled with kind people who would like to chat to you. The hostel is very clean and lovely. He has lockers (remember to bring your own lock) and the bathrooms are cleaned every single morning. The kitchen has everything you need and I dare say that the balcony is the most relaxed place you'll ever be. To reach the hostel is quite a climb, but the location is great. Only 10 minutes walk from the beach and near the busstop and metro station. At the bottom of the hill you can find a supermarket and other little shops. This hostel, the host, the favela is a hidden treasure in Rio. I would choose to stay here above any other place in Rio and I hope to come back one day to enjoy the friendliness and view of this hostel again!

AMAZING

I don't even know where to start. At day 1 Gabriel waited on us at the beginning of the favela to walk us to the hostel. He showed us the way and made us his specialty food, tuna salad. 
The morning after he showed us the map of Rio and where to go, he walked us out of the favela. The favela is really safe, probably one of the places in Rio I felt most safe. There is a nice bar, bar do David, and really friendly people. At the beginning of the hill to the favela their are youngsters on a motorbycicle who will bring you to the top for 3 Real. 
The view, my god the view. If you look out of the bedroomwindow or if you are on the rooftop, you will have a view to remember. You will look out at Copacabana beach and much more. Fancy hotels won't have this view! Another thing these hotels won't have, is people as Gabriel and Rafael. Gabriel brought us breakfast, made some juice, brought some fresh fruits, just because he likes to. His heart is with the hostel and his job. Everything we wanted to do, he arranged it. He arranged a hike, hanggliding, surfing, you name it. At nigh he would sens us a text to ask us if everything went well and with some suggestions to do in the evening. 
He even went to the biggest favela in Rio with us where he showed us the best places. 
The room are clean and tidy, the kitchen is great with all the stuff you need, including some hammocks ;). 
I travelled a lot already, but I never have experienced such an amazing host and such a good stay. It really, really is extraordinary. There is only one place to recommend in Rio, Gabriel's place! 


Authentic place in Rio, best stay. 

After 3 years in a row of coming to Rio for the summer and staying in Abrazo Carioca, I can say that it is already my home. I was in January and then again in March. Every time I go to Rio de Janeiro, this is my family is my place. It's a magical place, you're in the heights in the middle of the city but far from everything, you sleep with the sound of the sea and you wake up with the sound of the birds in your window. Rafa waits for you with the hot coffee every morning and Gaga tricks you with that delicious French pan that she brings for butter. The Chapeu Mangue community is very united, every Sunday they meet and invite you to the famous and delicious Feiada in the Bote da Faco to shop as a giant family.

This hostel is indispensable.It is charmingly clean, safe, cheap and the views of Rio are breathtaking.Alina, Gaga and Rapha are wonderful.They will take the time to show you everything there is to do in Rio, all in joy and good mood.

I found a family that welcomed me with the greatest love and attention. It was great to go out to see the wonderful city together with Gabriel, who gave me all the advice and helped me with everything I needed... and at the end of the day to get home and have the rafa and the alina waiting, always ready to welcome me and listen to my stories, made me feel at home! Besides, the space is quite welcoming and the view is unparalleled, it's an environment that absorbs us in the best of senses... it has many stairs is true but what you find sure when you get to the cottage is worth every step:) I never felt the fear or fear of the hostel located in a favela, on the contrary.. it was the place where I felt safest and protected all the time I can pass through it!! My best choice!!

Beautiful, safe, authentic, quiet place! The view is incredible, the Favela is interesting and full of friendly people, the rooms are clean and comfortable! It has everything a Hostel needs, and even more! Even better than the house is the team of the Abraço Carioca Hostel! Gaga, Rafa and Alina made our stay perfect! Gaga gave us tips for Rio and our next destination and made a tour of the Center, Lapa and Santa Teresa! I can only recommend! Whoever has never seen the view of the terrace of the Carioca Hostel Abraço has lost one of the most beautiful places in Rio de Janeiro! Thank you for everything Alina, Rafa and Gaga! Better than great!

What a great value for money hostel! The location is 10-15 minutes walk to Copacabana beach and 5 minutes walk to the famous "Bar Do David" for great food! The views from the top of the hostel are stunning, everyone we met were so friendly and it had a nice relaxed atmosphere. Thank you for a great experience in the Favelas,  I will be back!
