Look, if you want a sparkling souless minimalist box, refitted with the latest plastic  every 6 months then you should head for somewhere a few hundred miles south. The Arlington still has a sense of community, an expectation that people talk to each other and that not everything is an instagram opportunity.  Sure, it looks old and the decor is tired. Sure the bathrooms are shared, but the food is top notch, the company is always willing to talk and the staff are wonderful. 

We stayed two nights, everything was clean, everything worked, we watched films with the locals, read great books, ate fantastic pizza and had wonderful conversations with people. I wish more places were like this.

Charming and the heart of the community

$140 for two nights!!! dirty and a strong smell inside, unlit showers. yellow sheets. dirty kitchen etc etc etc... we ran away before we spent the night here

Dirt and odors

Rundown dirty place with moldy shower, overflowing trash bins in kitchen and bathroom, old uncomfortable mattress, only reachable via telephone, no response on email, we won't go back. And watch out for the "canyon" in the parking lot.

Dirty old place

The hotel is welcoming, it's in an old family-style house. We immediately felt at home in a dormitory with sofas and a low table to sit down. As a bonus, the bar hosted a concert the night we arrived, good music and good beer, what more could we ask for? It was clean, the owner is attentive, the only slightly negative point would be the size of the common kitchen and a little shower for the number of beds, but this did not pose a problem for us because there were few travelers during our stay.

Ideal on the road

We spent two nights at The Arlington. The place is great, it's very atypical, it changes and it gives a great atmosphere. Besides, the room was very spacious, and the kitchen and bathrooms are very clean. And what about the manager! Thank you for everything to Ro! Already for his warm welcome, but also for his advice on things to do and see!

That's great.

I live locally but since the Arlington has a bar and great music, I sometimes need accommodations after enjoying a fun night there. It's such a unique and awesome feature for a rural watering hole to provide a place to spend the night. There are a variety of price points and the management is really easy-going. I find the rooms to be clean and they're well decorated to boot

Always a pleasure

The kitchen and the bathrooms are very dirty and old. 

The kitchen was small, and it was a mess  with old food everywhere; in the fridge, on the table. Table was dirty, the cooking stuff looks like it's never washed.

Taps and showers in the washrooms are broken. The taps, where I wanted to get a drink, have only warm water. The showers have only cold water.

Also the rest of the building is old and dirty and the owner acted like he was surprised by our reports.

Old and dirty

The Arlington Hostel is convincing with its good, relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and comfortable accommodations, but whoever is looking for a super sterile luxury hotel is definitely wrong here.

Hippie Hostel at the Algonquin Park

We had a group of 27 cyclists and had a blast!
Lots of space and wide variety of rooms to accommodate couples, friends, etc
The Manager helped us arrange breakfasts and lunches at a nearby community centre.
Bar on the main floor had great live entertainment and cheap drinks

Toronto Bicycle Club stays at the Arlington

This hostel will be memorable, but unfortunately for all of the wrong reasons.

Upon arrival, we had to go hunting for the manager in order to secure our room keys... we were told if he wasn't around to "check the bar".

1.  Kitchen is small and unkept.  Sink was full of dirty dishes and greasy pans requiring washing.  The 'frig had no room at all - and something was leaking out of one of the  vegetable crispers that prevented it from even being opened! Clearly hadn't been washed in quite a while. Lack of glasses, dishes, etc.  A very disappointing first impression!

2.  Third floor bathrooms - the one with the large shower.  The shower floor is awful - be sure to bring footwear to use when showering, and it was almost impossible to finally get water that was warm enough to bathe with.  The sink has separate hot and cold faucets with no stopper.  Everything requires a good scrubbing.  The small washroom with toilet and sink - only the hot water faucet works and this might be acceptable if you normally brush your teeth with hot water! 

3.  Bunk bed mattresses are uncomfortable, with springs poking up and again - lumpy old pillows and dirty carpets both in the rooms and hallways.  

Altho' there was a dining area, it was closed. Perhaps you could prepare your meal and eat in the TV room - the only redeeming quality of the third floor.

Patio furniture is broken and dirty.  Stinky, water filled containers that must serve as ashtrays due to the number of rotting cigarette butts floating in them.

The "bar" is a dive but with the lights turned down at night, and after a few cold beers, perhaps you won't mind.

Maynooth is an interesting town - small but serviceable with a gas station and general store.  A couple of very nice galleries and a wonderful farmer's market on Saturdays in the summer.  Get out of the hostel (where you will literally be overwhelmed by the heat), and head down Hwy. 127 to Lake St. Peter to enjoy the sand beach and beautiful lake to cool off in.

I would NOT return to this "hostel" - which was more like a boarding house that would never pass a health inspection!
