I booked the hotel according to thousands of good reviews on Chinese travel website trip.com (English version of ctrip.com). It turned out very bad experience. I am not going to trust reviews on ctrip.com anymore. So from now on, I only use other more reputably websites. 
Taxi driver who drove us there asked why we booked this hotel because he knows another Merchant Marco Hotel is nearby and much better. Edgelake Hotel is remodeled from an old building. There is a moldy smell in the hallway. I requested non-smoke room, but I can smell smoke from nearby room. My room is small and old. Furniture are so crowded and low quality. The front desk attendant was very push. Travel agency in the lobby try to sell their travel plan like a street vendor. We were paying 5 star hotel price but got one star hotel. Very disappointed. 
我是看到携程网上的上万好评才定的这间旅馆。但是入住体验非常差。看来携程网评论不可靠。从现在起我只用其它更可靠网站。
出租车司机问我们为什么入住这间旅馆，因为不远处有一家同样店名的马可波罗酒店，却更新更好。这间滨湖酒店是旧楼改造的。我闻到走廊里的霉味。我要求无烟房，但依然可以闻到附近房间的烟味。我的房间很小，家具拥挤而劣质。前台人员态度恶劣，大厅里的旅行社像街头小贩一样向我们兜售旅行计划。我们付了5星级酒店的房价，却得到一星级酒店的住宿体验。总体非常失望。

Very bad hotel experience

Large room, adequate bathroom with shower. Comprehensive courtesy accommodation kit. Two bottles of water supplied daily. Comfortable beds. Large TV, of course with only Chinese channels. Ideal position for evening walking. Breakfast buffet varies. Adjusted and electric switchboard recommended to connect various chargers (phone, camera, etc.)

It's convenient.

大堂的感覺一般般，就像一般的商務旅店一樣，但是一進到房間！！乾淨、簡單整齊，感覺像是新裝修的，清潔程度驚艷，立馬看了一下浴室，也是非常乾淨，用的沐浴備品也是有品牌的，拖鞋也很貼心大人小孩的都有準備，很可愛。後來看到酒店是國際公司在管理的，果然整潔程度一流。不過房間外走廊的地毯好像正在準備更新，所以一走出電梯的期待不是很高。西湖步行即可到達，地點很好，酒店也有提供早餐，尚可。The room is very clean!! Beyond my expectation so much. Compared to the other Chinese chain hotels, this is the most comfy budget hotel.

房間非常非常乾淨，物超所值

Located 10 minutes' walk from the lake, the location of this hotel is very central, the metro station is close to the major shops and restaurants nearby. I arrived at around 10am but the reception gave me access to my room. The room is fully equipped, bathroom with shower, mini bar, cup sterilizer, air purifier. Breakfast offers many choices. For a well located hotel at an affordable price, this hotel would be an excellent choice.

Great place to visit Hangzhou

Booked a lake view room and hoped to hve a scenic restful stay.  Unfortunately,  view is mostly the malls in front of the hotel.  Room is pretty old but the location is 5 mins from westlake,  malls and restaurants.

I didnt really think about it when i booked but after 2 nights i realized it is marco,  not Marco polo lol

Good location,  so so room

This hotel was probably the least nice of all the hotels we stayed at for this trip.  The room smelled a little like smoke and it just wasn't very nice.  The restaurant REALLY smelled like smoke and was filled with Cigarette smoke when I peeked my head in to see if we wanted to eat there.  The staff was okay.

In the past, when I used to visit Hangzhou, I was staying in a different hotel but it has unfortunatly shut down its business so I was recommend to try Hangzhou Merchant Marco Edgelake Hotel.

I have to say that I was really pleased by this hotel: reasonable price, instant booking and the room we booked was large with very comfy king size bed (handy especially if traveling with a wife a kid).

One interesting feature is the rooftop right outside the restaurant on the second floor which has both a garden and a good view of West Lake. 

The location is excellent as you are basically 5 minutes away by walk from the West lake and there are many great restaurants especially Green Tea and Grandma's kitchen (though they tend to be really crowded and need to queue up for a long time on holidays and weekends so be aware) 

I would definetly stay there again for my next visit to Hangzhou.

My new best Hotel in Hangzhou!! Hands down!

I've been lucky enough to get an upgrade from a standard to a luxury room without my own help. Apart from that, the room seems very clean. Friendly staff at the reception. The hotel is very centrally located. It's only a 10-minute walk to the lakefront. Very good bus and metro connection. Fast WIFI network.

Central location and price

For its proximity to the Lake, I would say it's room rate is reasonable. We booked 2 room and had 1 room upgraded by the hotel which has s a nice gesture. It was slightly bigger. Beds are comfortable with clean bedsheets. Unlike other reviews, we did not encounter any smoking smell in the rooms. Bathroom was well equipped with Bidek fitted WC. Bottled water is chargeable at 8 RMB but there is drinking water fountain in the bathroom. On the 10th floor we could occasionally hear cars' horning. Reception service is reasonable but it's lobby is unappealing and look dated. KFC next door is useful for guests who prefer a change from the usual buffet breakfast.

Decent hotel walking distance to West Lake

Firstly: this hotel is not to be confused with the Marco Polo Hotel and also not with the Merchant Marco Hotel on Pinghai Road. The rooftop of the hotel was so large that an additional rooftop for our youngsters could be installed. The Merchant Marco Edgelake offers more than one can expect for three stars and the price. We had a room on the 9th floor - according to the report, the rooms on the 9th floor, which can only be accessed via the room code card, should be better equipped than those on the floors below. The room was so large that an additional rooftop for our youngsters could be installed.
