We stayed at Palm beach resort for 5 nights  for a summer camp, the staff were unhelpful and only spoke Chinese hence for non-chinese speakers all I can say is good luck. 

The lobby was dark and hot as Air-conditioning was not on. Even the large ball chandelier at the lobby was not on. The furniture in the lobby was old and had a strange smell to it when you sat on it (defienetly not the way I wanted to be welcomed after a long flight) 

Our room had smelled when we first entered in, people's clothes were left behind, stains on furniture and bed dashboard was dusty. Furthermore our toilet had no hot water in the shower as the knob broke, wallpaper is old and peeling and the pictures are just decieving. The hotel room was very dim if you do not open the curtains as the lamps and blubs were old and the Aircon was broken due to its age therefore we had an air blower instead.

In addition, they had mistaken the check out dates resulting in our rooming cards not working, therefore we could not get into the rooms hence needing to return to the lobby and explain to fix our key cards. This had happened twice.

Considering the fact that this hotel is stated to be a "four star hotel" is just terrible and appalling. This place should not be an option if you want a good place that is worth your money. 
In addition it is very far from the main city centre in Shanghai.

NOT A FOUR STAR HOTEL

Room 709.  None of the staff spoke English, but we managed to use Google Translate and got checked in alright.  The staff was fine.  The room and rest of the property did not meet my expectations based on the description and photos online.  Very rundown compared to pictures.  Mosquitos in the lobby and in my room.  My window wouldn't close all the way.  Only a fitted sheet on the bed under the coverlet.  No Smoking sign in the room, along with an ashtray and matches.  While there were instructions on how to get on Wifi, the English translations of the instructions were not helpful.  Restaurant did not accept credit cards.  Food was good though.  Overall just seemed very run-down.

Pictures are quite deceiving

Good if you are on a business trip to Caojing. But very far from Shanghai city. Rooms are good and a decent selection of restaurants.I had visited in winter so surroundings were quite desolate, but should be better in summer. Preferably choose a room in the main hotel building. the other rooms are not convenient for short stays.

The hotel is fine, good sized room, clean, good room amenities. 
The place is definitely not a beach! I was disappointed when we got there because there was no "palms" and for sure no real "beach" as the ones they present on their pictures.
We got the "sea view" room and what we got was the noisiest room possible, because it was on a 2nd floor with view to the street where the entire day was like a parade.
The staff is very very nice! This made a huge difference. Despite they don't speak good English, they try to help you in every way possible. I enjoyed my stay here because of the people.
The food at the Chinese restaurant is really good, recommended.

The hotel is fine, but it's definitely not a beach hotel! The staff is extremely nice and hepful

The HoJo Palm Beach Resort is located about 40km outside downtown Shanghai (People's Square) The direct beach approach is not to be compared to a beach hotel on the coasts of Europe. There is no sand beach and the water is not clear. The restaurants in front of the HoJo spread an unpleasant smell just in the summer. Otherwise, there is nothing in the vicinity of 10km. The hotel itself is very clean and the rooms are spacious. The air conditioning system of the hotel kitchen disturbs the quiet of the rooms at the back of the hotel. The sports facilities you expect at a resort are not available or totally distorted. The pool is not always clean, hot, in all corners of black fog.
