Me and my fiance stayed here, it was originally meant to be for 2 days and we ended up staying for 10. And we were still sad to leave when we did.
The location was great, we were down the non-tourist end of the beach and only had to walk through the horrible busy bit when we arrived and when we left. 
Mr Personaje (as all the locals called him) was very welcoming, answered all our questions, helped us when we needed it and we couldn't speaking more highly of him. He was fantastic, and his parrot :)
We highly recommend this accommodation. It is basic and if you're happy with that you'll love this place and the views and the company.

Great hostal, great host

The room has a locker to store your things, and the view is excellent. Orlando, who received us very well, the owner is very attentive. It's good to have umbrellas and restrooms available. We were also loaned kayaking and snorkeling antiparas. I would really come back.

While the accommodation is modest, wood and straw mansion, the bathroom is shared between two more mansions and is away from the construction; the peace and tranquility of that area of Playa Blanca greatly favors the establishment of this Hostel.The character, the owner of the establishment, is very friendly and gives you all the tips to make the most of your stay.

To summarize my stay in 1 word: Amazing! The room we got was above our expectations and the food was good as well. The owner en the other staff were very nice and I can sincerely recommend the El Personaje Hostel to every visitor of Baru. 

Lovely stay

Lovely 3 night stay here.. the hostel has 3 rooms not 2.. 2 are with sea side views and are 2 connected huts on stilts with a shared balcony ( lovely ).. the other is a total sea view but has 2 beds so a 'family room'.. as described by reviews on here and Booking.Com.. 
Owner - HeeMee.. is lovely.. so helpful.. 
Rooms have Mosquito nets but never saw one.. found a free wifi service 2 doors away although only 20 mins per evening.. 
One thing.. it is difficult to find! So, from the bus drop off follow sea to your left maybe 20 minutes-ish.. look out for ' Alejandro Express' sign clearly visible.. property is 30 yards before this.. 
Speed boat transport not for the feint hearted.. but worth it for the thrill.. paid 25,000 one way.. bus is 25-30,000 one way..
It is great.. you can have food there.. great.. plenty of cats and dogs around! Enjoy!

Great.

I booked 3 nights. At first everything was fine. I got explanations to come by transportation. Then my first blue visa card was refused, I tried with another mastercard, then another first visa... all refused! The hotel didn't answer me anymore! Neither by whatsapp nor by email nor my calls. I was just getting booking notifications for cancellation requests from my booking.

Money money money

My stay at El Personaje was awesome, I really didn’t expect such a great time over there. Unfortunately I just stayed for 2 nights because of my schedule. El Personaje is situated quiet at the end of Playa Blanca so there it’s not so crowded and not so many annoying vendors. The cabana is situated directly at the beach so when you sit on your balcony you have a great view to the sea. The owner is incredible, he prepared meals and stuff and is such a nice guy. His prices are very fair and I had one of my best evenings ever together with him and another guy who was staying there on the last night

great host

We spent 3 nights at the character's hostel.. we have nothing but words of gratitude for Jaime and his son Kevin. They made us feel like part of the family, always on the lookout for what we needed. we traveled through Colombia for 2 weeks and it was definitely the best place. new island is very beautiful but staying in the character makes everything much better. generosity, honesty and goodwill characterize the place. embrace the character and the character, and a greeting to Giovanni for his attention. alyson and mariano.

It's a dream come true!

A lot of people will tell you that Playa Blanca is vile...and if you go on a day trip and stay on the part of the beach were you get dropped off, then they'd be right. But plan to stay a night or two and walk down the beach, and it's lovely! (caviat: we weren't there at a weekend)

We booked the two rooms here (there are only two - it's a beach hut on stilts, with two 'bedrooms' separated by a bamboo wall . 

It is absolutely beautiful and the father and son who run it were very nice (if somewhat elusive)

It is however, very basic - which we were more than happy with, but if you want luxury resort type accommodation, then this isn't for you.  The loo flushes by throwing a bucket of water down it and the shower is also a bucket of water. 

But then, you're on the Caribbean sea!

I'm not sure what it would have been like to have a stranger in the other room as the wall was very flimsy and the shack would shake when someone was coming up or down the ladder. 

There are two sun loungers and a table underneath the hut, exclusively for your use, so you don't need to rent a lounger. 

overall we had a lovely time here, juts be prepared for it to be very basic (as are pretty much all the places along the beach, as far as we could see)

Beach Hut - Gorgeous location, basic (no different from any others on the beach, though)

The rooms are very comfortable and spacious, the facilities are pleasant and very clean, the bathrooms impeccable.The food they offer is delicious and very nutritious.The room service is fast.
