La Garde-Adhemar

My spouse and I took an 8-week road trip in France this fall. An unexpected change in plans landed us on the doorstep of Blandine, the owner of Les Esplanes in La Garde-Adhèmar.  La Garde-Adhèmar is a tiny medieval village in the Drôme Provençale department in SW France that sits atop a hill.  Les Esplanes is located a few minutes away and offers guests two B&B rooms or a self-sufficient gîte.  We chose to stay in the spacious and airy gîte that is nicely furnished in mid-century modern.  The small, serviceable kitchen has a great territorial view. (We did not miss having a microwave and oven.) The living area has two comfortable sofas, and a dining table sits four.  (There is no TV.)  There is a large separate bedroom with a king-size bed.  While we were there, the weather turned stormy and chilly, and the gîte’s heating unit kept us warm and comfortable.  Blandine checked in on us periodically and recommended and made dinner reservations for us at restaurants in nearby Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux that were splendid.  There is a large swimming pool on the property that looked welcoming but not in November!  We highly recommend staying at Les Esplanes with one caveat – the wifi is spotty out there in the countryside.  So, for those who want to get away and unplug, Les Esplanes is a calm, comfortable retreat.

It was a wonderful place where we had a very nice stay. All the ingredients came together to meet the expectations of the most demanding: a very nice neat, modern and very clean accommodation, authentic cottage renovated with a lot of taste and quietly nestled in a preserved nature, warm and professional reception, beautiful outdoors with a large swimming pool offering a beautiful view of the Gardémar and the surrounding plateaus.

A nice bubble experience in a very charming setting. Very welcomed by the host. Delicious and friendly dinner with Blandine and other holidaymakers. A nice lunch with good local produce (as well as the meal) I recommend this place.

... yes, the setting is peaceful, off-the-beaten-path, and appealing despite its proximity to a major nuclear plant. But essential modern amenities are missing. We stopped by in January and found the rooms were sparely heated @20°C. An ecological choice or a cost control measure (?) but were cold everywhere, in our room as well as in the common dining area. Huge problem for us was the lack of WIFI connection just about anywhere since the "Router" is located in the host's home and does not reach the guests' outbuildings. Imagine you rely on WIFI for work or your kids want to watch their favorite Netflix Show. The pricey yet uneventful, somewhat dull, homemade cuisine lacked inspiration and 'volonté creative' . The host was pleasant as well as the other couple visiting. The grounds are well kept, the rooms are no-none-sense functional but again lacking of what makes France such a desirable destination: charme, artsy originality and authenticity.  Try this place in the summer months and enjoy 'le radis noir'.

We won't be back! Here is why...

We had come to spend one night in this charming guest room. The place is beautiful and the amenities (pool and outdoor furniture) are quite pleasant. Breakfast is acceptable but the choice is limited and the customer is forced to eat what the host offers, a bit of a shame that he cannot find more variety when he wakes up. The price of the room is a little high in view of the benefits.

Large house of several recently restored batches friendly reception in the middle of the dromaise countryside, close to a large forest with many walks, quiet landscaped site, stunning view of the Gard Adhémar (located 2.5 km ), modern and tasteful air-conditioned room design, very comfortable bedding, functional water room, beautiful pool, friendly guest table (on request ), home kitchen and local quality wines. a little far from the city, and a little difficult to find - very degraded arrival path, but refurbishment works planned! rates a little too high in general, but nice services.

Very pleasant accommodation, very nice view and the guests are very friendly. The 80 year old room is spacious and clean.

A must see of the Provencal Drome

It's a nice surprise that this place away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, nice clean room, comfortable bed, beautiful exterior... everything there. The place, but also the hosts Blandine and Jean-Louis, always smiling and there for you. They manage to create a good childlike atmosphere in communion with the other guests.

A parenthesis

After a couple's stay in 2018 in one of the guest rooms, we came 3j between friends with the gîte formula to be independent. Room decorated with taste, everything is very well equipped and quality bedding. Nothing is left to chance, and an exceptional calm reigns throughout the property, carefully maintained by our 2 guests. Yoga classes every morning at the pool. Breakfast with its trio of home confections and stunning views will remain one of our best moments. We had a good memory of it, and this new stay was even better. Go to the Esplanes with your eyes closed!!

Exceptional

What a welcome, what a house and what a panorama! We loved these two nights in Drome. The situation of the house is exceptional with a unique view of the skyline of one of the most beautiful villages in France. The rooms are beautiful, sober, design (Artemide, Ingo Maurer...) and decorated differently by decade! A successful establishment! Table d'hôte, accommodation and availability at the top. You can go there with your eyes NOT closed (it would be a shame!)
