I wanted a quiet but elegant getaway, and this place turned out to be just what I was looking for! The beds are super big and comfy, not something you typically see in France. The linens are luxurious, the towels were huge, and the Aesop soaps were a nice touch. The room was perfectly clean. I came during "low season" when it's still a bit chilly/damp, so breakfast was served indoors in the shared space (instead of outdoors in the garden?), but the experience was still pleasant! Breakfast was good: coffee, pastries, yogurt, fruit, homemade granola, etc. There is some landscaping work happening on the grounds now in January but it looks like it's gonna make the place even better? I'm thinking about coming back in the spring to see the flowers or maybe in the fall for harvest? The hosts mentioned it's really pretty both times of year. All in all, this place is a gem. Amazing stay, delicious food, and just a great vibe all around. Thank you, Patric and Marisa! Can't wait to come back!

Dreamy stay

What a delightful location. The vineyards are beautiful. The building is recently renovated and immaculate. The wine is delicious and the hosts are friendly and informative. 
The cute village of St. Emilion is close by and Bordeaux is about an hour away and well worth the trip.
We found it an ideal location for an adventure or just to lounge in the shade and listen to the birds, with a glass of wine.

We can't wait to return!

Staying at Clos de la Barbanne was an absolute dream!! From driving through St Emillion and arriving at the property everything was breathtaking. Marisa and Patrick are incredible hosts with impeccable taste and attention to detail. With newly renovated rooms the B&B was such a delight! I spent my 40th birthday there with close friends. It was truly a memory and experince I won’t forget! Oh and the wine was Devine too :)) I love my red wines and their blend was superb. 

If you’re looking for a weekend getaway (we were traveling from the UK) or to host a small event I would highly recommend CDB ❤️

A stunning vineyard and B&B experience in St Emillion

This is such a lovely property nestled in the vines surrounding Saint Emilion! Our hosts, Marisa and Patrick, were so gracious, preparing delicious breakfasts and providing impeccable rooms. Patrick gave us such an interesting presentation on his winemaking, so different than some visits to the big chateaux in that it was personal and intimate, more “relatable” because his vineyard is small. Also, we thought his 2022 wine was delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This is a place to go to unwind, learn about and immerse yourself in this glorious winemaking region.

This establishment is run by passionate people, Annie for cooking and Laurent for wine and the history of the vineyard through the centuries.

I recommend

It's extremely rare when traveling to feel like family.  Annie and Laurent have made this rarity a standard.  Their natural and relaxed ability to balance professionalism and personal is perfect.  We felt as though we were visiting friends in Bordeaux, not tourists.  Annie's warm hospitality and deliciously prepared breakfast were all one could ask for.  This beautiful Chateau is part of a working boutique vineyard that produces excellent wines.  Laurent, Annie's raconteur husband runs the vineyard and is passionate about growing grapes, making wine and the history of the Bordeaux, all of which he will gladly share in great conversation...only if you ask:)

Annie and Laurant were gracious and happy to suggest towns, restaurants and sights to visit.  This guidance made all the difference, we felt like locals.  

Cannot wait to return, couldn't imagine visiting Bordeaux any other way!  Maybe next time I'll stomp some grapes!

Beyond exceptional

Le Clos de la Barbanne is a delight.  Annie & Laurent Gerber are perfect hosts.  Annie’s breakfasts are magnficent – always a frittata, quiche or tarte, together with fruit from their orchards, fresh on your plate and as home-made jam with superb croissants.  The room was large, airy and comfortable.   Annie and Laurent were both tolerant of our French, and, having lived a decade in Illinois and Iowa, perfectly fluent in English.  They sell wine from their vineyard both internationally and to particular restaurants in St. Emilion and Bordeaux – their recommendations were excellent and ensured that we were received generously by their customers, including in particular at Le Pavilion des Boulevards in Bordeaux, the best meal we had in the wine country.

A Delight

We enjoyed the refinement of this charming home as much as the rich history and personality of the area.

A romantic stay

Located just outside Saint Emilion (climb to the high point of the vineyard and you can see the church steeple) this is the topper most of the popper most. 

It’s impeccable.

Large, spacious, comfortable rooms, good water pressure in the shower, comfy mattresses, beautiful decorations, outside chairs to hang out in, room with a deck, delicious breakfast and even two friendly cats! 

Laurent’s historical tour of the vineyard and wine business is almost a Masters dissertation, Annie’s cooking and dining recommendations are flawless.

It may be expensive for some travelers, but its worth every penny. 

Oh..... and the wine is good too!
