My partner and I came for two nights. This was our first stop on our trip around Europe. 

It was a last minute booking as we had booked an Air B&B but it turned out to be a disaster, so we booked Hotel Pension Elegia! 

Our welcome by the manager/Receptionist was lovely and she was very friendly. The building is beautiful, it felt like it was a big grand house at one stage. Up the wide stairs we found our charming room with balcony and en-suite. 

The room was extremely clean and the bed was most comfortable. 

We had a lovely stay. The hotel was quiet and we had a relaxing stay. 

There were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room which is why is why it’s lost 1 star on my review. Other than that it was lovely. 

If we visit Berlin again, we would definitely stay again and I would certainly recommend! Thank you for a nice stay!

Lovely stay 

We arrived at the Hotel Pension Elegia after midnight and had previously received a text telling us how to get into the hotel and our room as reception would be unmanned. It all went very smoothly, the key was in a key safe at the front door, to which we had been sent the code, and we got to our room ok.
The hotel was in a quiet street with on street parking and although quite full, we found a space easily. The lobby area is well lit with reception and the dinning room on the ground floor. Breakfast is served each morning but we cannot comment about it as we were up too late!. For late risers there is a bakery just on the corner selling all kinds of fresh breads etc and coffee. The smell coming from that shop made your mouth water.
Our room was large, warm and spacious with a king sized bed and en suite. Although plainly decorated there was all you needed, a good sized wardrobe and a chest of drawers and a large flat screen TV on the wall, bed side cabinets and a large settee. There were large windows with a balcony (which was great for keeping our water and orange juice cold, it was early April so still chilly at night.) There was a good sized bathroom with plenty of towels and adequate hot water. There wasn't a thermostatic valve on the shower but the water temperature was easy to control. The room was serviced daily and clean towels provided as needed.
The hotel is well situated for sight seeing etc with the under/overground and bus routes a 3 to 4 minute walk away on the tree lined streets. The best way to see any city is with a bus tour which we used and you can hop on and off a green and red route as you like. The reception is maned by pleasant and knowledgable staff and they can usually answer your questions very well.
WiFi can be tricky a bit. Works, but sometimes lacking with connection, so you have to be patient. 
All in all, the hotel is a simple, well priced establishment which for those on a budget provides good value and service. Well recommended.

Good Location, Good Price

I booked this through Hotels.com.  A (very expensive) single room (single-bed rooms still exist) with a shared bath for US $155/night (pricy because of exhibition).  I had to pre-pay for my 4 nights. Then pneumonia struck, and I was delayed by 2 days.  Now the effective price was $310/night.  I requested a partial refund, but was denied.  Okay.  When I arrived I thought maybe a room upgrade?  No way.  Okay, then I asked if they would waive the 7 Euros on the free breakfast?  No.  I said the price was steep, and the clerk responded, "But you purchased an economy room!"  

I climbed the two flights of steps with my heavy suitcase, gasping for breath (...pneumonia?).  The room was exactly like a single dorm room in college, except that the ceiling was 12' high.

The doorknob was loose and came off on the shared bath, leaving me trapped in this empty wing.  Fortunately I had keys in my pocket, and improvised a tool to escape.  I reported the problem to the front desk but a day later there had been no progress.

Redeeming features?  The hotel's location was great, near Kudamm and Savignyplatz.  My wing was very quiet.  In effect I didn't need to share the bathroom.  There was also a kitchen.  The room had a window onto a courtyard, not the street, thus it was quiet.  There was even a shared kitchen area.  Wifi was functional.  Everything was clean and the bathroom fixtures worked well. So, maybe, 1 1/2 stars...

And after all, to be fair, they just enforced the terms on the Hotel.com agreement.

Hard to rate: mediocre but TERRIBLE QPR

The rooms are very poor and the floor divisions are extremely strange. There's never anyone at the reception, there's no elevators, only a lot of stairs. Wi-Fi also doesn't fit well everywhere (a few actually). The only good thing is the location. Good neighborhood and near a train station. Other than that, it's not worth it.

Horrible.

Good location, great restaurants nearby within walking distance. Parking nearby is possible, but gambling is possible. Unfortunately, the worst thing we found was that the bathroom was not or not properly cleaned. In the shower there was still the empty shower packet from the landlord and the toilet was limited, and for the first time we agreed to use it. On the floor in front of the bed there were still leftovers of shopping and price tags and there were dust cells everywhere in the corners. In fact, if it was supposed to be spontaneous and central and maybe too many men are on the way with a snap, it is tolerable but for us it is an absolute mistake. We have a small pension and we could have been cheaper, but we could have estimated the same price, but no one would expect it to be cleaner and cleaner for the luxury.

I arrived at nine o'clock at night and there was no reception. The code I had been given for the mailbox didn't work. Call Expedia and very well for them, they talked to the hotel and I was waiting for the person with the key to come. This one, he didn't speak any English or Spanish... only German. The room itself, not bad. It's a little dirty, but it was comfortable. But the bathroom... It's shared, even though we had ordered a private bathroom and it's outside the room. Everything you need to get out with your stuff to be able to shop and then go back to the room with you. And the cleaning of the bathroom... Please leave a little to be desired. The price is too expensive for what it offers. It has a price of 3 or 4 stars and it's like going back to camp.

The hotel is very well located in the city centre and close to the place of the ITB International Exhibition. But it's a shame that the signage in front of the building is not clear at all. The host is friendly and helpful. The room is clean and comfortable but to access it you have to go through two doors to lock what I don't find convenient at all. The reception is closed at 7pm so for a late arrival, it's the journey of the fighter. I honestly find the price a little expensive.

Well located

Apart from the good location, you really can't praise this house. It's very bright and the cleanliness is desirable. 1st night room 12 shower is a challenge. With one hand hold the shower head and with the other hold the shower compartment so that it doesn't fall apart. 2nd night room 7 the room is ok. Here again the bathroom. On the shower compartment the empty shampoo bags were piled up and in the toilet were still the leftovers of the previous tenant. For the price I would have expected more.

Just a solution

Simple hotel, nice rooms, friendly staff, bathrooms a little too small and old. Good location, easily reached by metro.

Good value for money

The area is very nice and very close to the interesting monuments. It is very safe to walk at any time of the day. The pension has not a good service: reception is open from 8am to 6pm and arriving later you can receive your key from the "Keyboy" (a mailbox with a code) but the owner is not very keen to welcome you. 
The rooms are nice, with wireless and tv, but not very clean, in the corners.
Anyway, if you want privacy, nobody will disturb you. Just, don't make noise because a writing forbids it after 10pm.
