Lovely stay right on the beach, our third time here. Afroditi was kind and generous giving us home produced honey and jam. 
The studio was light and airy with a nice balcony. We will definitely return. 

Lovely relaxing stay next to the sea

Well equipped and very clean studio, clothes changed every 3 days,view of the sea,very good wifi.Wow a lot of noise, cars,motors until 2am,taverns right next door,bad soundproofing.The balcony is small and not covered enough,it's impossible to have breakfast because it's too hot.No privacy if you stay at the rdv.Hotel rather reserved for Greek tourists.

Too loud.

This hotel was expensive and local beach had nothing but 3 restaurants. The taxis are extremely poor and had to wait 1 hour in taxi stand for one to arrive bearing in mind we were first in queue the whole hour.

A few things need to be clarified about the hotel:
It is not 24 hours reception, we had a ferry at 5am and there was no individual around to help with an early checkout or to help book a taxi.
The owner does not speak a word of english.

Would not recommend travelling to this island or staying at this hotel.

Hated the hotel and the island

The rooms were nice and clean and the kitchen was equipped with everything we needed The location was the best, just 10 m from the beach of "Livadi". Super markets, restaurants and Cafes very close. The owners were very friendly and helpful.
Although the hotel was right on the beach, we could not see the sea from our balcony because there were trees in front on the sand, which hindered the view, but we had a nice view of the castle when we were swimming.

The best place to stay on this island

Have only good things to say about this hotel. Maganas Hotel was very good choice for relaxed holidays. We got a room with excellent view. Nice and quiet location. Nice, comfortable and clean room. would definately come back and suggest it to anyone willing to visit Astypalea!

“great hospitality”

Actually we are a bit reluctant to recommend this hotel, we would like to keep it to ourselves. Beautiful setting and  friendly atmosphere. quiet location,super hospitality, totally relaxing, nice designed rooms. the owner , an old lady tries her best to have a nice time. no formal attitude, just original greek hospitality. “A very relaxing place to stay into sea and silence”

We just came back from Astipalaia a few days ago. BTW an amazing island. We saw this complex on booking.com and we booked a room (though not through booking.com) right at the last minute. So we didn't really have much time to look around for something else. We stayed at room 18 (me and my wife) for 12 days (10/8 - 21/8 2014) and we are absolutely frustrated and unsatisfied from our stay there.

Let me make my myself clear. The room was very clean and the owner, madam Kalliopi, did everything she could to please us but that was not enough. You see there are some basic things we ask for on our vacation from a room and that particular room had almost none of these things to offer.

1. cleanliness - very good.
The owner was cleaning the room every day, also was changing the towels every two days, but she did not change the bed sheets not even once.

2. Quiet - nonexistent.
The room is located right on the main road of the island from where motorbikes passes all the time, day and night. You see, motorbikes are the main transportation unit of the island. It's like having your vacations on a central avenue.

3. A shady place for breakfast or coffee - nonexistent.
The room has a small balcony. But it is facing southeast, so the sun is burning the place all day long. It is impossible to sit there at any moment during the day. But even when the sun goes down, the smoke and smell of burned oil, from the nearby tavern, will make you wanna puke if you try to sit there. I had to tie a beach umbrella, we had with us, on the balcony to make it possible to sit there for a while and have our coffee. Take a look at our photos and you'll understand what i mean.

4. privacy -  nonexistent.
People from the next room were sitting just outside the door of our room to drink coffee or read their book. Unbelievable. We were able to hear what they were talking about from inside our room.

5. Coolness - nonexistent.
The room was upstairs, on the 1st floor, and was so hot that we could not sit inside it without the air conditioning running.

6. View - nonexistent.
Because the room was on the first floor, as i mentioned above, we thought we would be able to see the sea from our room. But all we could see was the trees in front of the complex.

To cut a long story short, room 18, at Maganas studios, was one of the worst we have ever stayed. Of course the photos you'll see on booking.com, with all those decorative elements, are very impressive. That fooled us too. What they did not show is what you can see in our photos.

It's perfect if you are a teenager hoping to drop dead form noise, heat and insomnia. But if you're not, i suggest to look for something else. Just don't leave it for the last moment like we did. :)
