If you want to get away somewhere far from the noisy cities and everyday rush, give this monastery hotel a chance. I am a returning guest because of the lovely atmosphere and good service; they have nice and clean rooms, good kitchen, great library in the attic and fantastic rooms for meditation and yoga (and wifi in case you went too calm :) ). In addition there is a beautiful garden and a forest just next to the building complex. Easily accessible by car. Staff is nice.

Calmness

2 years ago I decided to spend a few days in one of Hungary's only currently functioning church-monasteries that allows visitors to stay overnight as parts of it are turned into a luxury, historical-heritage hotel. It surpassed all my expectations on all levels: price, look/style, modern amenities, breathtaking dining room with ancient frescoes and embellishments from various eras offering prompt service and delicious meals and a wide selection of choices respecting lactose free and other choices, even coconut milk among the breakfast choices.... I was simply blown away. The lovely walk down the sculpture dotted staircase on the side leading to a small village and to yet another small church was all adding to the romance and my eternal love for this place. If you are in a curious, contemplative mode, go and discover this gem of a place for a night or two and marvel at its beauty and participate in a gorgeous catholic mass in the church that is adjacent to the hotel and functioning also for weddings and christenings or simply daily prayers. When we were there there was a beautiful wedding going on...I dream about this magical place ever since. Next day we drove to Sopron, a 'baroque jewel box' of a city closely situated and easy to find. ENJOY and PAMPER YOUR SOUL!!!

How would you like to spend the night in a 12th c. monastery turned luxury hotel?

Accommodation: acceptable room but not spacious or comfortable, no air conditioning, essential in summer for a lot of heat. No fresh drinks available because there is no refrigerator or open bar. Restaurant: the service is neither professional nor pleasant. Long in service and then close soon, then no time for a pleasant meal. The quality of the food is nothing special. In short, being so far away from the urban core itself is not recommended on a route through Hungary, if you want a comfortable accommodation and a pleasant environment.

Holidays: the accommodation is acceptable but there is a lack of basic air conditioning, fresh water and refrigeration.

Wow! What a beautiful place. Our stay at the monastery will be a very good memory. Perfect for relaxing and resting while enjoying the comforts of a large hotel (excluding the TV). The dining room has nothing to envy of the large restaurant, we eat extremely well there. As a bonus, take a little walk back into the forest and you discover a small cemetery jewel dedicated to the hero of the First World War.

Out of the ordinary

We've been on the road a lot. This stay with the Morbich Sea Stage was an absolute highlight. Very good food, wonderful ambiance. This quiet, in the middle of the city.

A stay somewhat different

This is my third or fourth visit. I come to chill out and reflect on life. What a superb place to do that - a converted Monastery. Great food in the restaurant. Walks in the forest surrounding the monastery. There is a TV room upstairs but none in the rooms. Remember this is a place for reflection and relaxation.

The monks cells have been totally transformed for comfort and all have ensuite bathrooms.  

The town is about 4 kms from Sopron - There are two buses that take you to Sopron the 10Y and the 10. The 10Y leaves at the foot of the monastery at 18 to 20 minutes after the hour e.g. 10.18. 11.18 etc the 10 at 38 minutes e.g. 10,38, 11.38.

Coming back works the same way but at 45 minutes past the hour (10) and 58 minutes past (10Y).

A superb place for relaxation and reflection

Yes you will be staying in real Church/ Monastery. Its quite nice experience, and because we have sty there from Saturday till Sunday, we could here a Sunday mass in our room :) 
Few const about this place. It is bit out from city, so you need to take tacxi to experience the city center - cca 8 EUr one way
Close area its not really anything for nice walking.. There is cemetery behind the church and quite dirty forest.
Due to not really too many visitors in the hotel, the breaky are limited, very limited, there is no room service, and no minibar in the room, neither TV.. not saying we have missed it much, but still...
all in all, it was average experience...

Nice experience, but....

You know, from the waiter to all the staff you find, never a hello, restaurant absolutely not to recommend, quiet rooms sterile in white with nothing but a bed, no TV, or garden of a flower or a tree, only sterile.

Like in a convent, sleeping and praying,

Extremely quiet location with exceptional superior rooms. The dining room is exceptional. The staff, facilities and customer-friendliness still have some expansion potential. e.g. breakfast only from 08:00 a.m. onwards, on an earlier departure breakfast is not replaced by a lunch package, the flexibility for a room change, if not desired, is very rigid. No TV in the room for this.

Unlikely, almost sacred atmosphere

Beautifully restored monastery which was last occupied by the carmelites -a reflective order.  It also serves as a retreat centre. 
Austere is a word which springs to mind.  There is little declaration and colour in the hotel which is all deep white walls, stone, marble and wood panelling.  Windows are small and rooms though very pleasant have a sense of being cells.  Even the wardrobes have the look of the confessional.  The building looks in on  itself as would be expected but it has a similar effect on the guest.  So more than a few days and you could find yourself typing red rum continuously on a typewriter and smashing doors down with an axe or else you could be perfectly serene which may or may not be helped by the interior window which allows a view of the adjoining church. 
The food is good and very nicely prepared but small portions and simple as little old nun.
