I have been visiting Riva dei Tessali since I was three years old... the hotel, unfortunately, has been closed for 5 years, the golf course is practically abandoned to itself, the seafront restaurant is a terno al lot, the residences that the hotel structure rented are very expensive compared to the services offered, only the beach works (very well anyway).

I remember the old days!

The hotel may have been a beautiful facility a few years ago, but today it's totally dismantled and not even worth a star. I spent a week with a group of golfers in the hotel and was horrified when I arrived. The rooms are clean but the condition is a pretense. The colour leaks off the walls, the furniture is inhabited and the balcony is filled with moss and dirt for a significant amount of time. After three days, I had only the first 10 seconds of hot water to shower, then there was only a cold light coming out of the cable. A passenger had to his room from the beginning of the club with only cold water, and after 4 days it could be served very quickly. While the clubhouse had only an old deck of golf courses, the furniture is inhabited and the balcony is filled with various kinds of moss and dirt.

It's wonderful.

The place has all the characteristics to be a landmark on the Ionian coast. Enclave with golf course and a very wide beach. Unfortunately the structure would need a lot of maintenance. Air conditioning with some problems, non-functioning wi-fi (the phone takes very little) and some spooky and provincial indigenous people ruined the holiday.

The Decline of a Potential Paradise

Restaurant located on a beautiful terrace by the sea. Pessimi, service and food (poor, expensive and completely cold grilled). About half an hour before ordering and an hour between the first and second. At least there was the menu with prices.

Mean than mediocre

Located inside a Mediterranean pine pine tree, it has a very technical and fun design for every level of the player. The care of the route, however, leaves a little to be desired and the greens are excessively very high.

A very fun golf course.

We were two fathers and sons, wanting a spring golf training camp while there is still snow on the ground in Sweden. Overall we were happy although we had a bit of bad luck.
Lodging: Excellent 2-bedroom, 2 bathroom apartments in 2 stories, just next to 10th and 13th tee, and the pitching area. We did not use the kitchen but it looked fine. We read a lot of reviews complaining about the need for renovations, but this was not the case at all. Only thing lacking was to have a number of English speaking TV channels.
Food: we had half board/pension and breakfast was very good, and the dinner even better. Great Italian food and not expensive drinks to that. The Snack bar at 10th tee very good lunch food.
Golf: unfortunately the winter was tough this year and the course was not in the shape it should be (this was mid-March). I assume the conditions are nomally way better. We played both Riva dei Tessali course, and the Metaponto. The former was better designed, especially the holes in the woods, some of them really great design and very challenging. Metaponto more spacious but not a bad course at all. Most important -- you can play as much as you want and there is very low load on the course. Driving range balls of low quality, but pitching area good.
Price/performance: we looked at many different options also in Spain, Portugal, Turkey and this was the most economical. If the course would have been in better shape we would have been extremely satisfied.

Perfect for playing a lot of golf

hotel built in the late 60s in a lot of beautiful villas in a huge pine forest completely under control and supervision. hotel under renovation and it is necessary. I recommend the evening restaurant with quality local cuisine, private beach and especially the golf course, outlined in the middle of the pine forest, technically difficult but a treat for the eyes. having a small dog we were staying in an annex villa in the pine forest but 2 km from the hotel and its rest, so we need a car, but these annexes are renovated or will be.

Old man, but the kitchen, the golf and the beach make me forget the rest.

Riva dei Tessali treated my friend and I like kings while we were there recently. Granted, it is the off-season, but we were amazed at the spacious, immaculate accomodations, the low price and the level of service. We stayed in the "Golf Residence," not the Golf Hotel. The residence is a two-story, 2BR, 2BTH townhouse overlooking the 10th and 11th holes of the old Riva course. It came with dinner (with wine) and breakfast for only 90 Euro per person. Golf was also outstanding, as Riva features a daily green fee which lets you play both courses, the old Riva and the new Metapunto for the same 38 Euro (carts are 20E, trolleys 2E, range balls 2E per bucket). Again, very reasonable. And the hotel shuttled us between the courses and even let us play Metapunto on the day it was closed -- so we had it all to ourselves! Of the two courses, Metapunto is by far in the better condition, with marvelous smooth, consistent fairways and decent greens (they were being seeded, so we had to make allowance for that). It is very LONG if you play it from the tips, which we did NOT. :-) It is a links style course, very open, and a lot of wind. The Riva course is in less fabulous shape, again allowances for the off season, but it was still a tough test and a scenic track. It is more of a resort course, with lots of trees, water in play on a handful of holes, and also fairly long, with some very sharp doglegs. Like most European courses, it is unforgiving for the inaccurate. The entire experience was fabulous. The service was the nicest I've had in southern Italy, the value for the money was exceptional. In fact, the only thing that wasn't outright cheap was the pro shop... bring your own golf balls, they want 15E for a sleeve of three Top Flights (we're talking US$8 for 30 balls at Walmart) and you WILL lose a few, like I said the course is unforgiving. I would also say, plan your trip for the off season. The weather in early February was short-sleeve mild and the courses were virtually empty (the closed Montepunto WAS empty) and I'm sure the service and prices were better due to the lack of guests.
