We had a nightmare experience staying here. On our second night there, we found multiple bedbugs in our bed. I miraculously managed to capture the first one we saw, and then after that we saw two more. After seeing the first bed bug we pulled up all the sheets and linings and saw the telltale signs of bedbugs: blood spots on the mattress cover, black/brown residue in the corners of the pillowcase, etc. Of course the biggest evidence was literally seeing multiple bedbugs crawling around. The infestation was extremely severe.

After realizing this, we've been noticing bites that resemble bedbug bits in the last few days -- we did spend one night in the bed and it seems like the insects bit us all over. We've found a ton of bites on us since spending the night there.

It was a horrible experience, and we had to ditch our luggage, and for good measure we threw out some of our clothing as well. It would have been too risky to keep our luggage, since we did find bedbugs crawling in our clothes in our luggage once we noticed the issue and inspected everything. The bedbugs could have easily burrowed in the various linings of our luggage and bags.

We had a flight out the next day and we had to rush to a laundromat to hot wash our clothes and also purchase new luggage. All in all this was a very expensive problem, and we lost some nice luggage, shoes, and clothing in the process.

When we booked it, there were no reviews stating an issue with bedbugs. However, a few weeks before we arrived, it appears another guest had the exact same issue. If we had known that before arriving, we would not have come to the property. It seems like the property did not take the proper precautions in dealing with the issue after being alerted about it, and it clearly has gotten worse since. 

We're lucky we noticed this when we did. Otherwise we might have brought the bugs home in our luggage with us and caused an infestation in our own home. We've had to hire bed bug dogs in our home city to ensure that we didn't bring any home with us.

We, along with our friends, booked 2 rooms. In the property's defense, they immediately agreed to refund our room (but not our friends' room). Our room was the only one with evidence of bedbugs.

I would recommend against staying here until the property has taken the necessary steps to definitively rid their place of bedbugs.

I have never tried such bad service.
my mother and I were meet with a really rude attitude by the elder couple that own the place.
the room was actually okay except for really moldy shower curtains.
10 minutes after going to bed I noticed a really really big bedbug crawling up on my shirt. I stood up and then saw that there were bedbugs everywhere. we quickly gathered our thing and went outside. I texted them and called their number over 10 times while we waited outside but they didn’t answer.
the next day they finally wrote back but accused is of bringing the bedbugs and said that we needed to pay them for a special treatment of the room and said that he was going to report us. 
we went back to check out and get the last of our stuff, and when we got there he was really mad and had a really aggressive behavior, he didn’t want us to write to booking and when we didn’t want to go with him into the room he started yelling at us in Italian and saying we had bugs on us and in our luggage. 
we got out of there is fast as possible and where in total shocked.

BEDBUGS AND YELLING STAFF!!!

We loved the sassi and Matera so much we wanted to extend our stay from 1 night to 2 . Our original accommodation, which was twice the price, couldn't accommodate us for an unexpected 2nd night, so we walked into the San Pietro Barisano Residence, which was right next door. The owner didn't speak English well, but it wasn't an issue. He was  friendly and helpful. The room was a typical sassi cave, nothing to fancy, but the shower and shower pressure was the best iv had in 3 weeks travelling around Italy! The room was basic but clean, and the breakfast was simple but satisfying. To sum up, if you're looking for value for money to stay in a hotel in the sassi in one of the best locations, then this is the one for you. 

Great location and value for money in the heart of the sassi!

The owner of the hotel welcomes us with sympathetic spiritosaggini, which obviously served to hide the flaws of his business, and before he even showed us the 627 euro intasca rooms for the three-person family stay, for three nights, booked in advance at the suggestion of a familiar (sic!) person, the check-in ended and he accompanied us to the room Tersicore where he readily swapped out the smell of his own mold for the smell of tuff (strange that in the room allocated to my brother and sister-in-law the tuff did not smell!) We had to understand from the very beginning the level of this restaurant by looking at the quality of the food, the quality of the liquid in the kitchen, the general demand for the quality of the dishes, the degree of cleanliness of the pan and the quality of the dishes, which is not even discovered in the bathroom, but also the quality of the food, and the quality of the drinks, and the quality of the drinks, which we have seen in the kitchen, and the kitchen, as well as we have seen in the

Inadequate quality of services

A city only recently rediscovered, certainly very beautiful and unique like a thousand others in Italy. Wherever you turn there is something incredible that the whole world envies us. Unfortunately here we are faced with a city increasingly overvalued considering the constantly rising prices. In line with the city if not anymore, the owner of the Barisano and its structure overvalued themselves as if they only existed themselves. More than a good breakfast. In a nice place complex, which would easily be forgotten if it were not for the details in the room (frigo, shower, long door, window sill, portapon...) that have to do with the air that we would like to give: little deserves and needs a restyling at the ostello of an ostello.

It's a bit of an antipathy.

I stayed with my family again in this we in Matera returning after 5 years. My good memory has been confirmed and also widely overcome. Fantastic hotel in the barisan stone. Great location 2 steps from the main rocks road and the newest Matera. Rooms inside the stone very cozy, well furnished, super clean and with all the necessary comforts. Breakfast varies superlative and with local products made by hand in the morning. The real difference of this hotel is the owner with his family who welcomes you as if you were at home letting you taste the typical products from his kitchen.

Unforgettable experience in the rocks

Sleeping inside the cave house is simply beautiful! The structure has a charming view of the Barisano rock.. Suggestive room.. Great shower, spacious and functional. Excellent cleanliness. 5-star breakfast.

A splendid stay in the rocks of Matera

We stayed in this residence the night between 16 and 17 June booking with booking.com. As soon as we arrived we were greeted very coldly by the owner who assumed that we knew everything about Matera. Parking not available on site, activities to do in Matera etc. He assigned us the Euterpe room. A mini apartment smelly of mold and extremely wet. Furnished with 80s furniture of poor quality. We were tired of falling asleep from the smell. Dulcis deep down we were waiting for the property to open the restaurant to be able to breakfast. But the small question is whether the breakfast is served at 8 because they came at 8 and 5 with their face asleep when they arrive for breakfast?

I'm very disappointed.

Welcome... better not to comment!!! Too bad I had to pay even before I saw the room.. broken sheets, not to mention the bathroom.. bad weather and everything rusty!! The room that was promised to us (unfortunately I had nothing to write) was not that!! Residence definitely not recommended given the price I expected more!
