We only stayed one night in Osaka, since we were headed for Kyoto the next day. We arrived at around 8pm so we didn't really care too much about the comfort of the hostel. The price was unbeatable for a twin room so we didn't expect too much. The hostel was clean, so were the shared toilet and bathroom. Our room was rather spacey including air con but you could also open the windows. The hostel is located right in the middle of a residential area so it was very quiet during the night. However, you also need to be quiet when sitting in the tiny smoking booth outside (but at least there was a smoking option). Hoste is in walking distance to Shin-Osaka station were the Shinkansen leave for Kyoto. Also It's close to the Juso station (with late night dining options) where the trains take you to Osaka main station. 

The hostel is quite tiny and you easily feel a bit claustrophobic at times. When using the steep staircase to the upper floor you need to pay attention not to trip over or hit your head since there is a very low ceiling at the end of the staircase. Furthermore, the walls are poorly soundproofed so you can clearly understand every word the guy in the neighbouring room is telling his girlfriend on the phone. The receptionist guy is sleeping right behind his reception desk and was rather unattending (at least for japanese standards).

The hostel is simple, clean and quiet in a residential neighborhood.  The host was most helpful in navigating and dealing with logistics.  Kitchen facilities are basic, but clean and grocery store is nearby.  Kei made this one of my favorite stops.

Our stay in Osaka was always intended to be for the purposes of day-tripping Kyoto from a much cheaper vantage point (tip: if you have to choose between the two, we actually much preferred Osaka to Kyoto), so in terms of accommodation we were looking for something cheap near Osaka station. We ended up with this hostel, mainly because the booking websites maps of Osaka were so disproportionate that they displayed this hostel as being practically next door; instead it is still a tube ride away from the station. 

Since the red line of the Osaka metro offers a day pass, it would have been a lot better if we had just stayed in the city centre. The trains, both to and from Kyoto, and to the centre of Osaka from here, finish really early in the night, so it is impossible to enjoy any kind of nightlife if you stay here unless you have the money for an expensive taxi. If you are not interested in experiencing Osaka after dark though, the hostel is conveniently only about 7 minutes walk from the nearest station, and although the station is located on a confusing junction with no signposts, once one finds the right road you do not have to turn off it to reach the hostel until the very end. The area itself is very residential, and very local. This would be good for a sight of the more local Japan, but aside from the few corners immediately around the metro station there is not a great deal to actually do in the immediate vicinity. 

Once we reached the inside, we were struck at how quiet the hostel was. It took us a wander around the building calling out before the owner came out to find us, but he was friendly through our entire stay, and provided lots of free cold water for the room which was good. There is not really much of a common area to speak of, but this was actually not a problem - the reason being that we were the only two guests in the entire hostel. We did not see nor hear any evidence of other guests for the duration of our stay. The hostel is only small, but this factor admittedly made it feel a little creepy, although our bed was comfortable and it was really quite cool staying in somewhere decorated like a traditional Japanese home.

Perhaps a change of location is needed; it would probably do a lot better if the hostel was located in a more central area near things for travellers to do and people to meet, instead of staying very out of the way in an inconvenient place to get to if one really wants to experience the city.

The hostel its cheap clean and silence abit far from the train but it's okay for walking
I'll comeback again if Osaka calling me.
