My husband and I was visiting the Takachiho area back in May for my birthday. We never have stayed in this area before and we think we should try. After doing some research online, we have decided on this one and we are not disappointed but very impressed in fact. 

This is a boutique ryokan with only several rooms. It is around 5 mins drive from the Takachiho Gorge and is located not on the main road but a very quiet street (please make sure you check the gps carefully or you may miss it). Each rooms are in its individual house inside the ryokan area. Our room/house is in the very inside and when they are showing us the way from reception, we both feel like we are having a holiday on a tropical island. The settings, the design and the deco are making us feel like we are having a tropical vacation lol. Very relaxing. 

The room is a very modern beautiful designer-type Japanese style room. The room size is huge too!!! And they have indoor bath (not onsen though I suppose) and a very spacious bathroom area (they even have provided guests their own amenities kit/case like those that you received when flying business class. First time I received such a thing despite I have stayed in different Japanese ryokan for more than 20 times. Very thoughtful!). Their beds are very comfy too!! No complain at all!! 

Talking about service, yes, they provided excellent service! Their staffs are always wearing a smile and they are very polite and are taking very good care of us. They even have celebrated my birthday by providing a very yummy birthday cake and a mini birthday billboard. Their restaurant served good yummy food, too. 

We have enjoyed our stay a lot, especially the price isn’t too expensive given this kind of high quality room and service. Excellent and highly recommended!!! Although it is not those traditional Japanese ryokan style, you won’t be disappointed and it’s worth giving it a try if you are around that area and want to have an overnight stay. 

Excellent in All Ways! Highly Recommended! 

My husband and I were delighted with this ryokan.   We were traveling with Japanese friends. They had Japanese style rooms, we had a western style room.    We 5 all received excellent service. Our room was  very comfortable, beautifully decorated, with excellent amenities. The  private onsen tub, very easy to get in and out of was welcome.   Each of us was invited to choose our own kimono and yukata robe.  Geta were also supplied.   

The dinner and breakfast were very tasty, with great variety.

After dinner a hotel van took ust to the "Takachiho Yokagura" which was a very entertaining and interesting folkloric performance.    English language hand outs explained the story and the 4 "acts."    It was raining, so each of us had an umbrella supplied by the hotel.   Furthermore, hotel staff held umbrellas to shelter us as we folded our umbrellas to get in the van.

The hotel is within perhaps a 5 or 10 minute drive to the tremendously scenic Takachiho Gorge.   

It  was a great stay.  I would recommend it highly.

Luxury, Super Scenery, and Folklore Too!

The service in this little ryokan was wonderful and personalised from start to finish. The room was gorgeous, spacious and very comfortable. The bathroom was set up like public baths with the shower then the hot tub and outside a little dressing room with the cosmetics table. There was even an individual little walled garden with my room which the bath faced onto. In the foyer there was free tea, coffee and chocolate. The gardens were lovely and each room felt very private Breakfast and kaiseki dinner were both excellent. the ryokan is very close to the shrine where the Yokagura dance is performed and not far from the gorge.

I stayed there for one night with my husband last week. The service was excellent and all the staffs were helpful.  I can communicate with them in simple English. There are eight suites and only two suites in western style.  I requested the western style suite which was closed to the reception area. The suite was clean, spacious and cozy. During my stay, most of the guests were Japanese and we were the only foreigners.  The food for dinner and breakfast were good and fresh especially the local beef. There was a hot bath instead of onsen, but the water was hot all the time during my stay.  Overall, it was a unforgettable experience.

Excellent Service

After we were in Yufu in a really good Ryokan, it was obviously not easy to do the following. But at a similar price, we had similar expectations. The pictures on the net made us hope at least. The location is not central to the place  you should have a car. Then it's absolutely ok with parking right in front of the door. The reception was very friendly and you speak good English. Overall everything was clean, neat and fairly new. But somehow also something too simple and woven together. The onsens in the room were large enough and the room itself was large enough in size. The view in the small rooms was very large, but not Japanese. The food was almost no disappointment. Although the room (groups were not on the room and even the garages) promised us the atmosphere, but we could not keep the food in a very good condition. We were not able to keep up with the price of the Ryokan, which was a very good idea, but we were able to keep up with the price of the hotel.

Difficult assessment

This Ryokan is located in a residential area. It is a dry Ryokan ie there is no onsen. All in all, although price is not cheap, it was ok. The room is like a little villa - spacious, clean and comfortable. Each room had nice luxury touches - scented diffuser, table with seats had heated mat, private heated tub with some wine infusion to make yr skin soft and branded toiletries. Service was very good. The moment you are seated for dinner, the staff will offer you a blanket to put on your lap. Food was good. I love the melt in the mouth beef steak! It was the highlight of our dinner. Breakfast was also delicious.
