My friends and I booked this hotel on the strength of the good reviews given here. However, regrettably, our experience at this hotel ended on a very bad note. On the day when we checked out from this hotel, my friends told the staff at the reception thst they would go down to tokyo for a short trip before returning to Zao, and asked whether it would be alright for them to keep some of their luggages at the hotel just for a couple of days. The reception staff said Okay. Then fast foward a few days, when my friends went to collect their luggages upon returning to Zao from their trip, this Japanese old lady, who we understand to be the owner of the hotel, suddenly insisted that my friends must PAY to stay at the hotel for one more night before she would give them back the luggages. My friends were shocked and tried to reason with her but to no avail.  It was not until my friends threatened to call the police that this Japanese lady finally and reluctantly backed down. 

In fact, during our stay at the hotel, this same Jap lady also, without giving any proper explanation, told us that we could not use the dryer at the hotel. 

In the midst of that aforementioned saga, two of the hotel staff (who are much friendlier than the Jap lady i.e. their boss) approched my friends to try to defuse the situation. At one point during their conversation, my friends said to the staff " she [i.e. the Jap lady] must be a bad boss]. That two staff grinned and did not disagree.

The hotel is located near one of the gondalas and if you want to start or finish your day at another lift they will give you lift.
The staff are all friendly and helpful. They organised discounted lift tickets for us and recommended restaurants. 
We are hoping to return.

Great hotel for skiing

Le Vert offers train/bus pickup on arrival/departure, adequate rooms, great hillside location, private natural hot spring accessed via an underground dome and the most sensational hotpot dinners and buffet breakfasts.  We stayed for the entire week and were amazed that dinner every night was a different local delicacy of Yamagata hotpots. Very local experience.

It’s worth doing the dinner package

We stayed here Monday-Sunday to ski. It was quiet during the week but got a bit busier on the weekend. While the hotel is showing its age a little, it is clean and comfortable and the rooms are a reasonable size.
Breakfast was a good mix of western and Japanese foods, and we loved the view of the snow from the restaurant.
It's a very short walk to the ski run (not quite ski in-ski out) but people should be aware that it is one of the higher properties which makes it a bit further to walk from the main street and restaurants.
There is not a lot of English spoken anywhere in Zao, so it would be worth learning a few useful Japanese phrases if you're planning to ski here. The upside of that is that it's not overrun with Aussies (yet).
We could probably have arranged a pickup from the bus terminal but we had consigned our luggage in advance so we walked up the hill with just a backpack. We were driven back to the bus terminal when we left.
We would certainly stay at Le Vert if we go to Zao again.

Friendly and helpful

Stayed here for 1 night for a solo ski trip. The place is showing its age and a wee bit run down in some of the public spaces (i.e. bath), but I had a really good time and would go back. Particularly liked the quality of the onsen water itself (very acidic, but good for your skin) and the dinner, which was good value for money. My room was also comfortable and clean. And skiing wise, this is a great location as it's basically off the side of one of the slopes and pretty close to ski-in ski-out. Would recommend as a base if you're exploring Zao Ski Resort.

It was not very busy when I visited, and one potential downside is that the onsen bath is fairly small, so I can imagine how it probably wouldn't be that relaxing if the hotel were full.

Great for skiers

Really nice hotel in a lovely onsen town. Good choice to relax for a few days.
The hotel is a short walk from the station, it's uphill but if you call them they will collect you with luggage.  It is then only a short walk to restaurants and Zaō's  points of interest. The staff team are very warm and gracious and willing to help you, they also let us check in early which is unusual in Japan.  They helped us with restaurant choices and onward travel plans.
Our room was very comfortable, generous in size with a balcony and small seating area. The linens were also very good.
The hotel has a nice onsen bath for guests to enjoy and yakuta (robes)  are provided freshly laundered every day. 
The hotel is very clean and well kept but it isn't modern, which doesn't matter to us. It had a nice alpine family hotel feel.
In all we enjoyed a nice few days in this town, the hiking is great, outdoor onsen baths in town lovely and there are good restaurant choices.  Restaurants do close early though -around 9pm as Japanese customers dine earlier. 
Would return here and price was good value.

Great stay for a few days

We stayed here for four nights, six friends, we came for the snow. The people are helpful even though they r week in English. They try hard. Food is brilliant beery night they serve a different menu. It's just good local food.

Near the slopes 2 minute walk ski down to the Gondola no3 n ur off up the beautiful piste with powder snow

Great stay

I stayed here for two nights with my husband during the winter. This hotel is definitely for people interested in winter sports, with a large wet room area for changing into and out of ski gear (which you can rent from the hotel) at the entrance. Our room was quite nice, with two twin beds, a small sink and kitchenette area, and a really nice tatami space for relaxing and drinking. The hotel has a decent restaurant and nice onsen which were small but very soothing. A great private outdoor onsen is also within walking distance. Also, you can access one of the slopes by only a short walk from the hotel itself, which is very convenient.

As for the area itself, there is actually a lot to do in Zao if you like skiing or snowboarding, with lots of courses, and there are also beautiful areas you can reach by cable car without the skiis. The owners, who are parents of my colleague, went out of their way to help us find the slopes and courses for beginners. All in all we had a very pleasant stay here.
