Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights.
Location is convenient as it's located 5min from the bus/train terminus with access to food and shops nearby.

What I like about this hotel, besides the location are the following:
1. Size of room is larger than most hotels in Japan.
2. Full set of toiletries (toothbrush, hair brush, shower cap, cotton buds, shaver and even bath salts).
3. Bed n pillows were comfortable (2 extra pillows available in the room).
4. Room was very clean and well maintained though fittings were dated.
5. Front office staff could speak English relatively well.

What I didn't like are:
1. Insufficient lighting. Wife had problems doing her make up. The incandescent type lights (yellow) though comfortable to the eyes was not bright enough to lit the room for reading or work.
2. Fittings were dated. Still using manual water tap mixer (you have to turn on hot n cold water taps and get the right amount to get the right water temperature). There was a weighing scale...looks like from the 80s as it was bulky and was solar powered. The only modern fitting was the toilet bidet)
3. No in-room safe.
4. No cupboards. Only 6 hangars provided. Staying as a couple it means you have only 3 each.
5. No iron n ironing board in room. Have to borrow one from the reception. And carry both the small table top ironing board and the cordless steam iron to your room.
6. No bottled drinking water.

Overall it was a pleasant stay. Tsukuba is not a major city so I don't think there are many choices for hotels. Considering this I would not mind staying here again



Old but well maintained

This is a hell-hole of a hotel. Tiny, dingy rooms where you couldn't swing a cat. Very mediocre breakfast, where the staff is more concerned with your wearing gloves and a mask. No bar in the evening to relax, It is just a dump, though the staff were pleasant, as if sympathising with a prisoner who has to spend time here. There is also no safe deposit box in the room. You are obliged to deposit everything valuable at reception. Avoid it.

Ghastly hotel, makes a prison look respectable

The main building and the annex one are connected by pedestrian deck at the station. Old rooms, and new rooms partially renovated for the G7 conference, are mixed on the same floor. In addition, smoking and non-smoking rooms are mixed on the same floor, so smell of  the smoke in the corridor is unpleasant. Newly renovated room, a junior suite, that we stayed, was very comfortable. The room was large, with two big screen TVs, and the bath was very comfortable with a washing area. The restaurant also has Western, Chinese and Japanese food, all of which are very delicious.

We stayed at Hotel Nikko Tsukuba after their rebranding. Check-in was smooth. Non-smoking floor (did not smell any odours). Spacious room. Windows can be opened if required (an important point after the corona). Generally a pleasant stay. I would book via their official "One Harmony" website for maximum value.

After re-branding

Caught a bus from Narita airport for yen2300 one way. Very simple to do even with no Japanese. Buy a ticket in the terminal. Bus stops almost outside of this hotel. You can see it from the bus stop. Reception is on the first floor.
Hotel is good value, clean and comfortable. Bathroom has all toiletries included which I think is pretty standard for Japan. I did not take breakfast at the hotel but used the convenience stores nearby for cereal, joghurt and coffee. It's about 70 metres walk from the hotel. Shopping complex is lie rally on the doorstep. We would stay again.

Good place to stay

Kind of hard to believe this is the “best” hotel in such an international destination for scientists etc. horrible smoky smell and very dated dark rooms. Suggest you book at another town and commute into Tsukuba 

Smoking smell everywhere dated

I picked a place near the train station for my one night trip to Tsukuba.
The room looked over a nice square, and a shopping center with many restaurants on the 3rd floor was only a 5 minute walk, as well as the train station.
The room was larger than others I've had in Japan.  There were just enough outlets, the water got hot like I like it, and there was a free English language newspaper.  The internet worked fine.

One night to visit a friend

The hotel is remotely reminiscent of the Soviet sanatorium of the 1970s and 1980s. Plus: 1. Price: $70 per night.. 2. Clean and neat, welcoming reception staff. 3. The hotel was booked for 3 nights, decided to spend the third night in Tokyo.

The hotel's location is located in a connected buildings sharing the pathways. There're many shopping centres and restaurants nearby within 1-2 minutes walk.

Staff can speak English fluently and having great service minded.

There's a large indoor swimming pool but without a gym, otherwise I would've given 5 stars to this hotel.

The WiFi is quite fast with download speed up to 15.52 mbps.

Hotel amenities is full option just as you could expect from Japanese hotels.
