Calakmul Biosphere Reserve

After a horrible stay at Hotel & Restaurant Calakmul in Xpujil, I tried Hotel Maya Balam. What a difference! Clean, quiet, and fast wi-fi. Small free parking lot - probably can handle about 3-4 cars. Room was clean, good beds, clean sheets, and nice bathroom. Low water pressure in the sink was a bit annoying. Shower worked well.

When we booked the room, I already had in mind that this was just a one-night stopover. So I didn't have high expectations (rather extremely low) - in a way, the room was a pleasant surprise.
It was very big, the furnishings were ok.
The staff were friendly.

The bathroom has a terrible musty (?) smell. 
The wi-fi in the room didn't work.

For a one night-stay

The hotel is perfectly located for visiting Calakmul. The staff is friendly and smiling, I recommend their lunch basket to take to visit the city, equally unbeatable in terms of quality/price! Indeed, a pity for the noise of chickens/dogs but still bearable with quiet balls!

Unbeatable

This hotel is well located. The rooms would deserve a refreshment and the price could also include breakfast (compared to other accommodation at the same price in the Yucatan).

It's a nice little hotel.

Pretty poor overall. No hot water at all at any time, so no shower. Room was cleanish, shower was dirty.  But no side light, no side table, only just about warm enough with a thin fleece blanket. They didn't care there was no hot water. 

Dogs barking all night, cockrels in the morning. Very average food in the restaurant, they got my order completely wrong, then brought up chicken so overcooked I could barely cut it. Fresh juices were nice.

Worse place I've stayed in Mexico so far.

Very basic room, no hot water. 

At check-in, I paid one night out of three reserved, but the hotel did not record it. Then on the third nite, they wanted the balance… three nites, not two. I refused, and they were not interested in seeing my receipt. I walked away. 

Morning staff recognized that only two nites remained in my balance. Still stuck on being treated like a liar, I told them to call the owner for an apology more tangible than Sorry. The owner refused - hence this review.

Stay 3 Nites, Pay for 4?

It is a hotel with spacious rooms, hot water, internet, air conditioning, parking, has a small restaurant with very tasty food (I recommend the panchos) and is very well located two blocks from the highway My family and I stayed here three nights since we met calakmul, balamku,cueva de los murciélagos y bcalar which is 12o kms away.

The best option to know Calakmul.

It's not a five-star hotel but the rooms are clean, medium-sized, with good bedding and a good price-quality ratio. It's perfect for visiting the ruins.

For the ruins

I admit, it was our fault....We went from early on to the ruins of Calakmul and when we returned we had stolen cash. They did it cleverly Xk they took away all our bills but not all of us (we were 3). Obviously we could not do anything because there is a sticky letter behind the room door saying that the hotel is not responsible for any losses of value effects... The hotel is well located and clean but obviously the current staff is not to be trusted... The bedrooms are not very comfortable and the wifi is not running. The home food is rich. You can leave your values in the reception... Obviously I can't blame anyone but myself for having left cash in the room and not being able to receive it but it's a pity that in one afternoon with you all the vacationers... The answer from the reception room was that the room was where you wanted to leave your own things, and in one afternoon you had to take care of your own things, and in one way or another you knew that you had to do things.

Wow, don't leave any cash in the room!

The hotel is quite basic but clean and convenient. 45 minutes from the Calakmul site, it's perfect for stepping up. The small restaurant is very friendly and good and personal as a whole is charming and helpful.
