We went out for dinner out on the terrace. 
Efficient service and the menu was good. 

The entree was interesting tasty salmon. 

The main menu was beef which had been smoked was succulent, juicy and tender. I enjoy every morsel. 

The dessert finished off the meal. We continued to drink as the evening sun went down.

Charming family run hotel in an excellent location for exploring Valkenburg. The family work hard (incredibly hard) to provide guests with an enjoyable experience. 
Slight negatives: breakfast area could become a little cramped in the mornings; no plug in the bathroom wash basin; creaky bedroom floors….
Positives: location, charming decor and overall ambience; good food at breakfast and dinner; very comfortable bar; nice outdoor patio…

Great hotel!

We found the rooms to be very dirty: dirty bedsheets that smelled of previous residents, toilet was not cleaned properly and the room smelled of old food when we arrived. Upon requesting the staff to clean, we got a very rude response and no action was taken. We eventually moved to another hotel nearby

Stay away of you value cleanliness

The rooms are poorly furnished and have almost zero sound isolation (so be prepared for sleepless nights if you dont have sleeping buds). Also, hotel staff is rude and unprofessional.

If you are on a bike holiday in Valkenburg, then upon arrival they make you sign a legal document stating that your $$$ expensive race bike has to be in a dirty shed with no cameras/security and they have no liability for damage or if its stolen. No matter the condition of the bike, you're not allowed to store it with you in the hotel. Thanks to this policy, I managed to get a severe crack on my bike frame when someone carelessly forced another bike next to mine, in the shed. Of course, the hotel had zero liability for this.

So this is my last stay at this hotel. I suggest staying away from this place!

BIKERS STAY AWAY!!

The hotel is really nice, because you can explore the little place from here on foot, and you're about 3 minutes from the train station to Maastricht. The hotel has its own parking space where you can park for just 5€ a day. We spent 3 nights here, and we'd like to pay a small surcharge for a suite. That's 310,€ for 3 nights. Including breakfast and parking. The so-called suite was a little disappointing, because it needed to be urgently renovated. The bed was too soft and the furniture was very old. The house from the 60s, which you can see everywhere. The breakfast was ok. Everything in the stay, the suite, the staff, in every case, was nice, and you should have cleaned it up.

Very good location... but there was a lot to do!

Hotel is located within walking distance of the station and the center.  The hotel has 49 rooms.  We stayed with two other couples in three standard rooms.  The rooms all had a different layout.  Interior is basic.  There are three types of rooms in the hotel.  Beds are good, two separate mattresses and two duvets.  The only downside is the absence of a coffee maker.  Breakfast is good and tasty. During Chrismas is The hotel beautiful decoreted.

i been to this hotel on 4 occasions now and have never left a review and  on each occasion its was excellent  its a family  run hotel  non of you faceless  hotel owners  food was excellent and hotel staff were amazing and friendly and nothing was to much trouble for them  if you want a clean run hotel  great food this is the hotel for you and its so near to everything  train station markets caves castle etc

I visited this hotel as part of a large group. It didn’t look much from the outside but the inside was a whole different ball game. The hotel had been spectacularly decorated for the festive season and this plus the existing artefacts, eclectic furniture and decorations made for a beautiful setting in the public areas. The hotel is very obviously and lovingly family run. They were highly engaging and the place is a credit to them. Their staff, to a man/woman, were friendly and keen to please, the food was of a high standard and the entire place was spotless. The bar/lounge was well stocked and comfy and there were countless other bars and eateries within a short walk. The room was more than adequate though I believe that sizes vary somewhat. It’s very centrally located and the start of the weekly Christmas parade was just a few hundred yards away, as was the railway station and park. Pity there’s not a direct flight to a nearby airport from my part of the world because I’d be back there in a jiffy. Great place, as is the whole town of Valkenburg. 

Well worth the lengthy drive from the UK

Once in a while you find true hospitality and the Monopole and it's owners certainly delivers that.   Reading some of the reviews this seems to be the norm and they are to be congratulated for it.  It is not perfect in the pernicaty sense but it offers real value for money.  We were with a large coach party but the standards of both dinner and breakfast were high.  It is within easy walking distance of the centre of Valenburg and its many interests.  The Curvers know how to run an hotel and it is not surprising they get many return visitors.  We hope to count ourselves amongst them soon.

Homely

Lovely and clean old charm hotel run by a charming family, located in a quiet area of Valkenburg. Ample choice for breakfast. Has a bar which remains open till quite late which is perfect place to relax after a day out.Need to go back.
