great location in the heart of Casco Viejo. I you stay here get yourself on Chris's tour of the area. He is a greatt dude who is full of knowledge of the local history and it is the best way to spend a few hours in the city. He is happy to help out with any issues or questions you have. Got me sorted with a SIM for my entire trip so I could easily keep in touch with family.

Great hostel with Great staff

I've stayed three times in this hotel. Very well located in the old town of Panama. The staff is very friendly. The bedrooms are clean, the bedrooms have curtains and a ventilator. The toilets are also quite clean. There are small drawers where you can leave your items but you need to carry a lock. The kitchen is very tidy and in the morning you can enjoy a good coffee and some self-made curtains.

Comfortable and convenient.

Luna's Castle is a very friendly hostel with a good atmosphere, located in a beautiful house right in the center of the old town of Panama City (Casco Viejo). The breakfast (pancakes) is simple but delicious, the staff is friendly and helpful. The free walking tour with Chris was especially great, where he showed us the city and a lot of animals (faulties, wild tucanos!) for four hours. A better first day in Panama you can't imagine!

Nice hostel with fantastic free walking tour

Bought the T-shirt here in 2013, so couldn't resist returning to the scene of the good time.
Crumbling Casco Viejo then made Old Havana look like Singapore. Been tarted up since, as have the prices; but PC is rare among MesoAmerican capitals in being both interesting and pretty safe. Panama Viejo's a fascinating wander. Jaunts around El Canal, wildlife rambles, a day trip to Isla Taboga.
Luna was superbusy as before, for good reason. It really is The Place to stay. Bags of colourful character in building design & staff. Spot on location. Great for meeting folk.
Such a shame the in-house film theatre downstairs is there no longer - fond memories of lounging back with a cool Balboa to backpackery films like Into the Wild & Motorcycle Diaries. Oh well: nostalgia's aye a killer. Still a joy to stay with the old sea-dog again.

Chris Barnes, thanks for everything. Never had such a good city tour guide! You were so passionate with the city tour but also included the nature hike outside of Panama City! Thanks for everything.........

Best city tour ever

Very nice hostel to stay in. Especially room 7 is perfect! Lots of backpackers and people to explore the city with. Chris gives a walking tour almost everyday of the week and I would definitely recommend to do this! It was a great walk, with loads of wild animal spotting, good food stops and a view over the city and the Panama Canal. Would definitely recommend this hostel to everyone!

Super nice hostwl

Wow what a brilliant hostel to visit and stay in when you are in panama city I cannot think of a better hostel in the world! The common areas are very clean and they have a lot of things to do such as ping pong or reading or playing games or chatting to other travellers and it was very homely! They also have a huge bar that you can reach from the back stairs it was very cool! The drinks are so cheap and good! There are beautiful trees and little sit off areas where you can meet other travellers from many other hostels. It is a very popular outdoor bar but there is no issue with noise within the hostel rooms! Stay here it is top!!

Top hostel!!!!!!

I can only recommend the walking tour with Chris !!! You get a fantastic view of Panama City and the Panama Canal. See if you're lucky sloths, hummingbirds and monkeys. Chris leads you through the streets and gives tips. The four hour tour was really fun!!

Walking Tour with Chris

Perfect location in Casco Vieja. The hostel is beautiful, the spacious rooms, the comfortable beds. We make the pancakes ourselves and eat them on the nice terrace. Chris is very attached to our experience, and we took a walk around the city, we could walk for 4 hours, see animals (toucans, lazy, monkeys,...) eat an authentic ceviche, etc. We recommend 100%! A little noise in the evening because of the music in the bars but with quiet balls.

That's great.

To begin with, the hostel is a really cosy place to chill and hang out in panama city, especially in casco viecho. It is located centrally and offers nice chill out areas and clean rooms and baths. You get all information there needed for panama city and how you can manage your time to checkout the best activities. 

In personal, one of the best experiences we had by attending the walking tour with chris - it's free but if you enjoy the nearly 4 hour walk to Ancon Hill (which offers an awesome view over panama city and the panama canal!!) you should give Chris a tip for his time and efforts. During the tour chris spots lots of tucans, sloths and other jungle animals! You never catch them because chris is a jungle expert and spots them even if you can't really see them (ask him you will find out). Furthermore, you gain a really good insight into the "real panama". To sum up, it was a perfect start into our vacation in panama and we would recommend everyone who stays at lunas and has time for a 4 hour walk to take part at the free walking tour (...even if you will have not much time, the walking tour sums up the most special things you can see in panama city).

Also one thing I would like to highlight is that Chris makes this awesome place to one of the best we have visited while traveling through hostels. We hang out a lot with him, he is an incredible person and very supportive (thanks for SIM card and gym!). All best Nicolas & Nico
