Good pension in the Old town near the train station (7-10 minutes walk). Zazpi Kaleak metro station is 3-5 minutes away. Long staircases, high ceilings, a balcony on a narrow street, a large room. A good, authentic place to stay in Bilbao for a night or two.

Authentic, inexpensive place to stay in the Old town.

In Old Town, very close to Metro station. Old Town is atmopheric and relaxing. Narrow, facinating streets and Plaza Nueva is great meeting up place for drinks and food. Great links  to main city centre which can be reached by foot or public transport, ie metro or tram. Bilbao is an intriguing city with proud hisory. Excellent transport links to airport and local region.

modest pension, spotlessly clean. Ideal location.

My bed was full with bedbugs. It was a horrific experience waking up with bedbugs all over. I had to book a different hotel in the middle of the night, throw away the clothes I was wearing, and wash all my stuff not to spread them to other places.

The pension in general was quite dirty and the staff did not speak English. The only good thing about this pension are the location and the price, but it is definitely not worth it.

Bedbugs

We were bitten! We spent one night and ruined the next week's vacation. Well, the little things: the room was uncleaned, through a gap of cigarettes, covered or even a dirty blanket, covered with cigarettes. We arrived a little later on the check and then they couldn't get inside for a long time because the owner went to lunch. They called the door, on the phone, wrote - silence. Then he came as if nothing had happened. He didn't apologize. The floor smells of chlorine, and in the soulful black mold. They didn't admit their guilt with the bugs.

There's a bug in the room!!!

A simple, clean room. Ideal for a few days. Old house with ideal location in the middle of the old town. Very good transport links, a few minutes to the metro and various bus lines,

It's a great location.

Vintage and basic hotel just in the  oldBilbao heart. Mr Sabatino, the owner, is a good person, with a long past at his shoulders. This place is very cheap and good for visitin the city, but yes, cleaning is not its best feature.

Old style Bilbao

Whilst our first night was pleasant enough, it is, what should have been our second night that has prompted the review. Centrally located in the Casco Viejo, competitively priced and functional. We stayed for one night. My mother in law had a room with a toilet at €45 and we had one without at €35.
I warmed to the gentleman who ran it, as he was chatty and helpful, even advising me on parking and navigating around the area, and when he realised that our second night would fall 10 days later, on a Saturday, he explained that he would be leaving in the evening of that day and advised me to arrive early so that he could greet us.
That's why this later experience makes no sense. Having agreed to arrive before 6pm on Saturday 12th August, I repeatedly rang the button at 3:20pm. No response. As we had to meet family to eat, we rang several times over the next 2 hours, but the phone was always engaged and seemed to have been left off the hook.
We were left high and dry, at the 11th hour and on a very busy Saturday in Bilbao. We were extremely fortunately to find anywhere at all, but found one of 3 remaining rooms in Bilbao - a room for 3 at €200! The result is that my wife and mother in law, no longer trust pensions for fear of a repeat experience. I certainly will avoid this one in the future.
Would have given it a score of 3 had it not been for the second night.

A Mixed Experience

We had just made the Camino del Norte for a week and stopped in Bilbao.Being tired we didn't pay much attention to where to sleep because we were looking for something fast and centered.We entered a boarding house without an elevator (thinking that the price would be adjusted) and quite old with a tobacco smell.We ordered a room for 3 and the man (quite unpleasant) showed us a wedding room where we had the option of adding another bed for 12 euros.Being tired and wanting to find a place we were left wanting but the truth is that we had to sleep all 3 in the 2 beds as the plague was worse than sleeping on the floor.The only thing that saved this site is the location.

It's very just.

Bilbao was blocked for the repair of vehicles that needed a hotel in the center of the city and cheap.This board is perfect in this sense and was quite quiet.

Clean and cheap.

The Hotel was very central. Therefore it was perfect for us for sightseeing.
Althrough the central position it was very quit in the room.
Due to the cheap price the bath and also furniture was a little old. But all clean. We can recommend!
