The walls are plastered and soundproofed, the conversations of the roommate were heard so well that I was tempted to advise him that if he wanted to buy a dacia it is not the best car quality price.

A normal place.

Nice rooms, wifi works well. As it was indicated in other reviews, the pension is near the road and you hear cars, but we slept well. We had some food with us and they let us use their fridge. Had a nice dinner in the bar after we failed to find a working restaurant before 20:30.

Good value for price

The noise is insignificant, except that the night was December 31st and at 5:30 in the morning the coffee shop downstairs was open and filled with people coming from other parties and the street was packed with a little scandalous people.

Estancia corta is a short stay.

I was pleasantly surprised by the establishment. Very central to town centre, restaurants and bars and easy parking in the back street. 
You check-in and get the key at the 
bar. Entrance is via the back. You go up the stairs and on the landing you find the rooms and an area with a couple of lounges. 
We had one of the front rooms with a small balcony and plenty of plants. 
Very cosy looking.
Room a good size, tv, Internet was working well. Beds very comfortable 
and Bedlinen smelled lovely and was squeaky clean, like the rest of the establishment.  Bathroom was ok, it's just that the shower nozzle was up very high and spraying over the shower door. Good pressure though but thought it better to shower with nozzle in my hand before flooding the bathroom! 
I would have liked to rate this pension as good. unfortunately Tripadvisor only has the choice between average and very good. 
Hence my average score. 
Service was very very amicable and we tried and had some laughs with my very limited Spanish! 
One man at Bar Gades speaks good English, a very friendly and helpful person.
The bar itself is frequented by many of the locals and those in the know as it gets pretty busy, also at lunchtime when they serve very nice raciones! 
Wanted to book an extra night but unfortunately fully booked.

Just be aware that you are booking a room above a bar. 
There can be little or a lot of noise!

It's just a short detour of the main road to Santander. 
The accommodation as well as the town itself are worth the d-tour.

Great find 

We have friends who live in Cabezon de la Sal so we decided to visit there on our tour of Spain - Pension Gades appeared to be in a central location for us (and turned out to be round the corner from our friends house!).   Granted it is above a busy bar so can be noisy but the bar closed at midnight on our first night and earlier the following night so we were never kept awake by noise from it.   You enter from a door at the back of the building (there is a very secure lock on the outside door) and up a flight of stairs to a lovely landing with 2 comfortable settees and coffee table.   There are 3 rooms off the landing - ours faced the front and had a small balcony with nice pots of plants on it.   The whole place was spotlessly clean and very comfortable with lovely bedding and nice furniture.   The bathroom was great with a walk in shower and complimentary toiletries.   It is close to the town centre and within easy reach of many bars and restaurants - we were actually surprised to find how many lovely restaurants there were in the town.   There is free wifi but it could be a bit hit and miss though that didn't bother us too much.   The staff in the bar were friendly and helpful - and we got a lovely cup of coffee there our first morning plus a bit of tortilla for breakfast.   They don't include breakfast but there are plenty of places round about to get something.   It was such great value and comfortable that I felt as if I was staying in a 3* hotel.   There is no safe in the room but we have a small portable one which we can attach to a radiator to keep passports and some money in - though the place was so secure I don't think we really needed to use it.   All in all, if we ever go back to that part of Spain we would certainly stay there again as we really enjoyed our stay there and were sorry to leave

Brilliant place

The room is nice to be a boarding house but... the sheets with yellow and red patches...very unpleasant. The pillow also has patches. The cover room looked like it hadn't been washed for months. It is located right above a bar that at 8 am is already crowded enough and it is impossible to rest, even at night. There is no hair dryer or attempt to leave one. Slow reception as in the middle of the week Santa solo there is a girl working with the bar full and to serve the guests of the boarding house. You have to wait for the guests of the bar to receive you as you are alone.

Very normal.

The guest house is fine, it has a balcony and the price is cheap, recommended for visiting the surrounding villages, comillas santillana, suances..ect todo pilla cerquita.
