A nice place to stay set in a very secluded and scenic location.

This B&B style farmhouse was very charming, the owners were also very helpful and outgoing during our stay.

Breakfast food was very good and the rooms, which seem abit dated were warm and cozy.

Craigadam Hotel

Having had a bad experience of not being given a room with a loch view as booked, we moved on to this fabulous establishment which was so well worth the disappointment of a mix-up. Thank goodness we said. We landed in this floriferous heaven of a courtyard, lovely comfy and roomy bedroom, and a hostess with the mostest (who happened to have a rather good cook of a husband/farmer). Lots of information of where to go and what to see around the area, and a great evening meal of lamb cutlets. There is an extensive Breakfast Menu and you can spend an evening on a full size snooker table!

A serendipitous find

We had 3 nights at Craigadam and dinner on the first night.  We found Richard and Celia to be kind and hospitable hosts with nothing too much trouble and frequent offers of tea or coffee with home baking were offered.  Much of the produce on offer at breakfast and dinner comes from Craigadam's own butchery and smokery and was of the highest standard with the smoked salmon being the best I have ever tasted. The room was well equipped with everything we could have needed and their were spare pillows and covers available.  There is a delightful courtyard with the relaxing sound of a water feature to relax in for an hour before setting off for the day or on return.  The front garden has seating with beautiful views over the countryside.  The breakfast room, drawing room and billiard room have the perfect atmosphere of a country house and we enjoyed the experience of relaxing with a drink in the comfortable drawing room which also has lovely views.  Whilst there another guest had problems with his car and Richard sorted this out for him with no hesitation.  When told of a dairy allergy Celia went above and beyond anything we could have expected even baking bread with soya milk for breakfast. 

Kind, hospitable and responsive hosts in a great house in a lovely location.

Had a wonderful stay, Celia was a fantastic host and thoroughly enjoyed chatting to her. We stayed in the Indian room which was very comfortable ( huge bath with powerful shower overhead). Courtyard is a beautiful space full of flowers. And the food! Dinner was incredible, warm avocado, venison and cherry pancakes followed by coffee in the drawing room. Breakfast was also superb with delicious fresh and stewed fruits, homemade compotes and jams as well as the choice of cooked breakfast. Great to see the red kites flying around when we walked the dog. Very dog friendly, they’re not allowed in the rooms in the house but can stay in your room whilst you eat and of course are allowed in the courtyard, with numerous walks around the property. Conveniently located for all local attractions.

I had read all the positive reviews and was pleased to book a twin room for my lovely 76 year-old mother and me on our last night of a UK visit. The reception by I assume the owner Celia (she never introduced herself) was so incredibly hostile. I had made a mistake on booking the twin - it seems to have booked for one adult rather than two - so before a hello or welcome she advised the price would be £140 not £120. I had no problem paying the extra (I had paid the rest in advance) but thought it could have been handled more discreetly given I was treating my mum to the night. We were hungry and tired on arrival but she informed that you have to book dinner a day in advance and didn't even offer a cup of tea. Before we had even brought in our bags she demanded to know what we wanted for breakfast the next day without even handing us a menu. We were standing on the street! I mildly asked for porridge and was then coldly questioned on how I wanted it cooked. Next morning she was storming about and after nearly snatching my mother's unopened yoghurt from her side plate she demanded to know whether she would eat it before or after the hot breakfast. It was so bizarre and unpleasant - I was gobsmacked. We pretty much fled after that. This is not a hotel - this is a B&B run by a very unfriendly and unkind person. The breakfast buffet featured shopbought juice and Aldi yoghurts, and the advertised prunes etc weren't there. The positive reviews amaze me but I see now that those who have given it 1 or 2 stars had similar experiences to me. Just awful.

Very hostile owner... Upsetting experience

Loved my stay here , especially as I had to sort something quickly as had received a call to say the venue I was to stay in had Covid in day of travel.
Room was excellent as was all hospitality.
Loved the courtyard garden and the garden swinging seats - so much so I have purchased one.
All staff really friendly and- thank you to Celia  ( owner) for all her help and suggestions.

We picked this hotel on the basis it was described as a luxury boutique hotel as a stop over on our way to the Highland Club at Fort Agustus. Unfortunately for us we found it’s description was far from reality. Our bedroom could in no way be described as luxurious from the bathroom the size of a cuboard to a threadbare rug, coffee 
Having stayed in many luxury boutique hotels in several countries this hotel is not in my opinion a luxury hotel I would describe it more accurately as a farmhouse B&B. The room we had was far from luxurious from the bathroom the size of a cuboard which always smelt musty, to the threadbare floor rug, the coffee table that looked like someone had gouged bits out with a knife, to the bed that wobbled every time one moved.
Despite the big rap about the great breakfast available it was average and far inferior to the breakfast we had experienced in Ireland and England. Would we ever stay in this hotel again definitely not nor would we recommend it to any of our friends and family in Australia.



Not a luxury boutique hotel

We stayed in the Indian Suite which was spacious and spotless. Breakfast was superb, and taken on the enormous mahogany table in the main house. A lovely choice of fayre including Craigadams’ own smoked fish and freshly baked bread. Evening meal is an option which again was tasty and plentiful.
Guests can play snooker and walk the grounds too. Would happily recommend this welcoming country house and look forward to staying again.

Perfect hideaway

Craigadam is a great place to stay if you are passing through or touring in Dumfries & Galloway.  Celia and Richard are excellent hosts, going out of their way to offer a friendly welcome - a pot of tea on arrival, restaurant recommendations, advice on things to see and do etc.  We booked too late to have their highly recommended dinner, but will certainly try it next time we visit.  The main part of the house is homely and atmospheric, while the bedroom we had was spacious, clean and comfortable.  Breakfast was varied and plentiful - Celia’s homemade bread was delicious.  The rural setting is stunning.  Craigadam is a working farm, and a highlight for us was seeing the lambs born the previous night before we departed for our next day’s touring.
