We were very happy to get a last minute booking at this place after finding our previous accomodation unacceptable upon arrival. 

The service here was impeccable. We felt comfortable to ask questions about the local area, breakfast options etc. It was lovely being able to engage with the staff and really get to know them as the wonderful people they are.

My favourite part of the room was its cleanliness. Every corner was spick and span upon inspection. The window was also left open before we got there to allow for ventilation, which I really appreciated. I found the overall decor charming and homely.

We also opted for the cooked breakfast, which ended up being a great decision. The full English was not greasy, and the staff had informed us that they do not use oil for this reason. Everything is griddled instead. Plenty of variety and even great vegetarian options. It was also very well socially distanced and we had the whole dining room to ourselves both mornings. 

This is a fantastic little place to stay at! We would love to return again.

This is an old hotel with good location , but the room was very hot and stuffy even with windows open and fan on all the time 
Beds and pillows were uncomfortable

Good location 

Lord lister Hotel enjoyed a Pleasant stay for 1 night. Clean room comfortable bed and fan provided on hottest day of the year. 
Close to town walking distance to restaurants and a good real ale pub half moon next door. 

Good friendly hotel and location 

The hotel is in a central location to Hitchin.  Market and shops a few minutes walk away. This is an extremely old building so don't expect a boutique or up-to-date fashionable hotel.  The room was comfy, clean and warm and we had a good night's sleep. We had a room at the front of the hotel so there was some noise from the road, but this wasn't too bad. There is free parking at the back of the hotel.  We had a lovely cooked breakfast in the morning.  We stay in lots of B and B's and hotels and this was one of the nicest breakfasts we have had.  Good quality ingredients and served piping hot. Very good value for money and we would definitely stay here again if we come to Hitchin.

Great hotel in a convenient location

I stayed for a couple of nights while visiting family and friends in Hitchen. I had a room in the annex which was very clean and although a single room had plenty of space. Well stocked hospitality "tray" and even a chocolate on the bed when I arrived.
Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was very nice. 
The hotel is situated on the edge of the town centre, just a few minutes walk from the shops.
Very good value for money and I woulld definitely recommend it.
Only very slight downside was the wifi signal was a bit weak. Not a problem for me but I guess it might be if you were trying to download.

Excellent hotel in great location

Stayed at the hotel for one night in a four poster bed.  Room was very large,comfortable and clean.  Owners were very welcoming and friendly.  Hotel was very close to shops restaurants and right next door to a pub...what more can you ask for.  Yes they even had deals at various restaurants where if you showed them your key they would give you a discount off your bill.

Other guest have stated that the hotel was dated but we feel that is unfair as the decoration is more in style of the building.  

The breakfast was great got served with tea and coffee and the owners went out of their way to assist us. 

Hitchin market square had a very nice vibe to it with plenty of bars, restaurants and pubs to choose from.  The Pitch and Piano Bar was very nice and friendly didnt eat there but the food did look good.

All in all a fantastic night was had and would definitely visit again.

Great Place to stay lots of Character

Having just spent 2 nights at this hotel all I can say is "well done to all at Lord lister" friendly and knowledgeable staff, nothing was too much trouble, great breakfast, the best we have had at a hotel for a while, cosy rooms and comfortable beds. The hotel has a well stocked bar with competitive prices, and is well situated for town and all its amenities, thanks again xx

Great place

3 of us stayed here on the night before our trip to Duxford air display. Easy journey from here if thats your plan. I was in the old part and my double room was small but clean and cosy. All the things you need just don't expect luxury as it isn't but its still a nice place with character. Great location for going out into town where there are loads of restaurants. Breakfast was great, better than some 4 star hotels I have stayed in. Hosts very friendly. Would stay again if ever in the area. 

Good price, great breakfast. 

We satyed three nights, using it as a base to visit Bletchley Park and IWM Duxford.  The hotel is in a very good location in Hitchin within easy reach of bars and restaurants.  The building is full of character, has comfortable beds and provides a first class breakfast.  The owners couldnt have been friendlier or more helpful throughout our stay.

A Hotel with a lot of Character

My wife and I recently stayed here whilst visiting family. The hotel has plenty of character and is nicely furnished. It is conveniently located in the town centre with a 5 minute walk to shops and 20 minutes to rail station. Our bedroom was warm with modern furniture and the bed was comfortable. The bath had a shower over but a handrail would benefit anyone less able. Breakfasts were of good quality. Staff are friendly. There is a car park to the rear. We will definitely stay again. Downside is there is no lift.
