We stayed in New abbey for 3 nights at a lodge. We passed this place several times and fancied a quick pint. Unfortunately we had children who weren't welcome. On the last day I sneaked in for a cheeky pint. It was quiet and as soon as I asked gor my drink I could feel 3 people just looking at me, I felt highly uncomfortable. The pub itself was old but good and the pint was very nice but the slaughtered lamb sprung to mind whilst in there.

Quiet pint

Visited to eat only to find it doesn’t do food except in the summer. Stayed for a drink, wish we hadn’t. The landlord sat in the corner and totally dominated the room, it is a very small room. He was quite offensive to some guests! Won’t be returning.

Surreal

We have driven and walked past this pub many times over the years but never been in. We called in for drinks on a very sunny Saturday afternoon. Thinking it would be busy we were surprised to see no one inside and only one customer sat at the tables outside. One glass of wine and a pint was ordered. Drinks were as expected. No atmosphere, no signs of food being served. To be honest it’s unlikely I would visit again especially as there are so many other pubs and restaurants to visit in the area which serve a good meal with an inviting atmosphere 

Drinks

Having driven past this great looking place many times and seen 'food served signs' I stopped with my family for some lunch. It was Sunday and although there was a blackboard in the entrance saying '2 course roast', the staff said they do not serve roasts on a Sunday. Very odd and the friendly staff member did not understand that we found it odd not to serve roasts on a Sunday. I should have left then but my children were hungry.
The children portions of bolognaise pasta could have fitted in an egg cup and was wrongly described and came with a side bowl of ketchup!? So they were still hungry. The adult portions of ham egg and chips was OK but had to give the kids much of the ham and chips because their pasta was so measly. I asked for mustard but what they gave me tasted very off. drinks came in dirty glasses with no ice. and to top it off it came to nearly £50 and we only had soft drinks. I observed people on a nearby table who were picking apart horrible looking sandwiches made with the cheapest white bread and very dry, they were not enjoying it. On a positive note the puddings looked pretty good and the chips were nice but was an expensive mistake and was just disappointed overall.

wish I had driven past and not stopped for Sunday lunch

We've been coming to New Abbey and staying at the Abbey Arms for around 12 years. We have always enjoyed the cooked breakfast which consists of locally-sourced produce and the scrambled eggs are absolutely gorgeous - the best I have ever had outside my own kitchen! Gerry always makes a point of perfecting the scrambled eggs.
I've read some negative reviews about this establishment and have to wonder what people expect in terms of 'a pub with rooms' in the middle of such an unspoilt and glorious landscape - surely, that is the main reason for visiting New Abbey? 
We have always found the landlord to be 'entertaining' no matter the mood. We all have off /stressful days, don't we? Chill x

A beautiful old building in a very pictuesque village (yet thankfully not too 'twee').

Called in by chance when we were in the area today and found that the hotel was doing a set priced Sunday Roast Lunch, which was very reasonably priced. We sat in their lounge/dining room which was heated by a large log fire and we had a two course lunch which was priced at £10.50p each. The food was delicious & piping hot. The restaurant wasn't too busy and couldn't have asked for better service. Well done to all concerned, we will definitely go back again in the future.

Great Sunday Lunch

Came down with 11 friends from Glasgow for a weekend away playing GPS games.
The hotel and pub were amazingly friendly, prices were great and the hospitality was beyond compare.
Can’t recommend this place highly enough.  If you’re in the area, then The Abbey Arms is your destination!

Weekend trip from Glasgow

I was at this hotel for dinner with my a little old mother. The beautiful (Latvian?) lady led us to the warmest place. It was very pleasant to sit. We both had a lamb's mane served with a dark mint broth sauce, which may have included olive oil. It was all perfect. We definitely enjoyed it very well. Our stay at this hotel.

A delicious meal

We happened to find this little hotel, we just stopped and got a room right away. The staff were very friendly. We had the choice between a double room with a private bathroom and a twin with a suite. We opted for a double... The bathroom was in need of renovation... but otherwise everything was great. The room was big enough and the equipment was right. The dinner and breakfast were very rich and tasty, parking just outside the house - whatever you want. The price was more than okay.

Nice little hotel.

The hotel has spacious, well-equipped rooms and a guest lounge where you can watch or read. From the rich breakfast offer, each guest can choose what suits him, the offer ranges from cereal to eggs and fish to a complete British breakfast. The in-house restaurant offers excellent meals and the guest is best advised about the sights in the area. A small manko: there is no internet connection. Abbey Arms can only be warmly advised.
