Tranquil Escape in the Woods

There was one price arranged by phone before we come. When it comes time to pay they give us 20% higher price, an explanation was that we were in a better room. Also, we need to pay additional tourist tax that was not mentioned before. 
If we knew this information before, probably we would leave, but they told us at 9 pm so we won't have a chance to find another place.
Water was dirty, the shower was closed it couldn't flush out.

Greedy hosts, terrible service

First to set the scene: based on the patriarch's familiarity with German pleasantries, I suspect this place is popular with German backpackers.  That's the kind of place it is.

Located about 20 minutes outside the town of Berovo, up icy, winding roads, in the mountains, is this little motel.  We initially drove past it, it's so unremarkable and the sign is so tiny.  It's very spare, no TV in the rooms, no WIFI, the bathrooms are very basic, beds very firm.  There is no restaurant, so back down the mountain we went.

Worst thing was, visiting in winter, the rooms were freezing cold.  We all ended up sleeping in our street clothes to be warm.  Even on the second morning, after 36 hours of the heat being on, it was still too chilly be anywhere other than under the covers.

One morning there was a decent breakfast spread, but the next not so much.  The coffee is prepared with the coffee grounds in the pan, water boiled, poured into cups, so you have grounds in the cup.  It's not horrible, but it speaks to how simple this place is.

The family that owns and runs the place was certainly very welcoming, but they don't even live there.  They have the sense to actually live in town.  

My last morning, as I lay in bed staying warm, I discovered a long hair protruding from between the mattress and headboard.  Sigh.

If you're a German backpacker, perhaps this is paradise.  I think the locale would probably be nicer in much warmer weather, but my experience was pretty bad.
