I stopped here towards the end of a 1250 mile bike trip from Gibraltar to London. I had mostly been wild camping so was treating myself to a bed for a night. The couple that ran the place were very friendly. I feel bad that I can't remember their names! She was particularly lovely and gave me some cream for a cycling injury. The room was very nice and the whole plaint very quaint and rustic. I was given breakfast in the morning and was offered dinner as well. Would definitely recommend!

We first discovered this gem of a place three years ago and have been back every year enroute to Mallorca. I am reviewing it grudgingly as I want to keep it a secret but the lady is so nice that I would like to see her get lots more business, hence my review.

A lovely old house set by a babbling brook with a little bridge over it, is simply charming. We always ask for and get our favourite room that overlooks the bridge and the river. Madame is slowly renovating the property and each year we arrive to a new delight.

The decor is French shabby chic but comfortable. That's what makes it all the more charming. Its a bit like visiting Aunty in her living room with the 'knicker blinds', higgledly piggedly books, pictures, a dresser crammed with bits and pot plants!

Madame Chantal is a fabulous cook and we really look forward to dinner each time we arrive. Breakfast is typically french consisting of yoghurt, crusty bread, crispy croissants and  home made jams, all finished off with that delicious coffee that only the french know how to make. I am sure that if you fancied Heart-attack-on-a-plate (the full english fry up), she would happily make it for you but Ive never asked.

The village is tiny and apart from a  Creperie, church and the boulangerie, there isn't much else, unless you fancy visiting the ubiquitous betting shop! The stroll along the river bank is very reflective and calming. As I was walking through the garden, it reminded me of my childhood and a huge garden we had that  was full of secret nooks and corners.  This place is wonderful for children. They can paddle in the stream, climb the many trees and explore.  Parents can sit in a shady or sunny corner at the bottom of the garden and just enjoy the sounds of nature.  It sounds idyllic. Believe me, It is!

A warm welcome in this beautiful old house next to the ancient bridge. We had a warm comfortable room overlooking the river where we could sleep in absolute peace. We had super in the dining room and enjoyed a lovely home cooked meal. The owner cooks beautifully and is quite willing to discuss cooking and the sorts of vegetables she grows. After a night's rest, we had a lovely breakfast with beautiful fresh bread and the lovely home-made jams.
This house has been brought back to life after years of neglect and is being beautifully restored. We really look forward to visiting again.

Madame Paris is a fabulous generous host. Rooms are simple, rustic French. Beds are clean and comfortable. Shower hot and powerful. 
We had supper which was wonderful - 5 courses with wine. Breakfast also fab - breads, jams croissants etc. 
Children loved the wonderful grounds and cats. 
Setting by river was v pretty. 
Would definitely recommend and return. 


We stopped over here, en route from one holiday destination to another, so we really just wanted a good bed and a meal. We got both, in spades! Chantal gave us a lovely welcome to her amazing house – an old mansion she has apparently rescued. It’s certainly large, rambling and a work in progress. Our room was lovely – a good size overlooking said bridge with a well appointed shower room. The bed was nice and firm and made with what appeared to be genuine thick linen – gorgeous! We dined in a grand dining room with linen and napery, beginning with pork rilletes made by Chantal and toast; then a truly delicious carrot mousse on well dressed salad leaves; cod stuffed with soft cheese and the most buttery cauliflower I've ever had; various cheeses; a chocolate mousse, and coffee and red wine. After a really quiet night, serenaded by the sound of the river under the bridge, we enjoyed  breakfast at the dining table set for at least a dozen - either other guests who were not yet up or family to arrive later. We’re early risers so spotted Madame going out and get the bread while we had yoghurts and orange juice we were so early! Good bread and fab butter – from farm up road – quince jelly – must be her own – and miel from little old man. All for 112Euro – a steal.

A riverside gem

delightful old house, charming owner an excellent chef

M and Mme were friendly and charming.  They even let my husband watch the rugby on TV and gave him a Calvados which Mme Chantal’s family had made! The room was quaint overlooking the river with an en suite shower room and WC.  Lovely crisp white sheets and impeccably clean.  The house itself dated back to the 16th century when it was an old coaching inn. It was a bit tired and cluttered but that possibly added to its charm.  We were treated to Mme’s home made watercress soup followed by fish, a huge array of cheeses and apple pie.  Breakfast was croissants and home made jams with coffee and orange juice.
