I stayed at Crocevia for a week-long yoga retreat with friends old & new. The people who run and work this B&B are lovely, and so is the resident dog Duke. I was absolutely spoiled with their home-cooked meals at brunch and dinner, all home-made (even the wine!)--some of the dinner dishes were served with collective gasps of excitement from our yoga retreat group, e.g. their lasagne al forno & pizza. I stayed in a room on the top floor, which is ensuite with an very good shower. The water is solar-heated, never needed to worry about lack of hot water! Having some stock Italian phrases and/or a phrasebook at the ready is recommend, although some of the staff can speak English. Casella town centre is only a 10-15 downhill walk away and has several excellent gelato shops, restaurants and shops. There is also a local swimming pool in Casella and a train station which connects you to Genoa. To explore the Ligurian coast, you can take a coastal train from nearby Bussala. This is my first trip to Italy, and from the warmth, culture and hospitality I experienced this week I can't wait to come back. PS: Bring earplugs: the church bells ring every 30 minutes!
