Garni Hotel Geier

Would we stay at Garni Geier again? My word we would! Garni Geier is a lovely family run hotel and the family are just wonderful and very helpful. The people in the north of Italy all speak fluent German and Italian and Karen speaks reasonable English and if she doesn’t understand what we are asking then she uses a translator app to help her understand. Skiing in the Dolomites is a unique experience. There are 12 resort areas and several villages within each resort area. Garni Geier is located in the village of Santa Christina in the resort area of Val Gardena. Because all signs are written in both Italian and German and are often abbreviated, Santa Christina is signposted as S.Christina or St Christina. I think the majority of people agree that Val Gardena is the best of the 12 resort areas but it makes little difference because they are all interlinked and all very good. Santa Christina is a very pretty village ideally located close to lifts. The free ‘Skibus’ makes it very easy to get from Garni Geier to the lifts either at Santa Christina or other villages. As I mentioned earlier, skiing in the Dolomites is unique. The southern Alps or southern Tyrol often misses the weather systems that dump on the Alps just a little bit north resulting in very little natural snow at times. However, this makes the Dolomites the area with the most sunny days for skiing and all those cold clear nights allow the worlds most sophisticated snow making machines to churn out unimaginable amounts of snow that is groomed to perfection every night leaving 1200 km of groomed trails every morning.
