I have been dying to go to the BioAgriturismo Valle Scannese ever since meeting the man himself, Gregorio, at a cheese tasting in Rome. Three girlfriends and myself drove there from Rome on a Friday after work and arrived in just over two hours. Once you get off the highway, the roads leading towards Scanno take you through some spectacular mountain passes. Eventually you pass the crystal water of Lago di San Domenico, then the heart-shaped Lago di Scanno, then the town of Scanno (which looks like the Matera of Abruzzo), and finally just 3km away from Scanno you arrive at the agriturismo. HELPFUL ARRIVAL TIP: don't trust google maps. Once you pass Scanno, in a few kilometers, there will be some signs and a bend in the road and also a big statue of a Pope. This is the road to turn down to get to Gregorio. Just follow the signs from there and continue straight, it's easy to find. The agriturismo was impeccably clean and the service was uber friendly and helpful. Gregorio himself came and sat and chatted with us multiple times and also gave us a tour and explanation of all the cheeses. We also got to see the barn. This place is an Abruzzese paradise. You will find few foreigners/tourists here. You will be in the fresh mountains, away from the chaos of Rome. The prices are very affordable, and the quality of everything if very high.
