Fantastic
57 reviewsWe really and truly lucked out finding Cécile and Salvatore and their absolutely lovely bed and breakfast in a vibrant and historic quarter of Turin. How did we find them? We were traveling in Italy with our three children ages 11-17, and an Italian friend from Cuneo sent me a link to several bed and breakfasts in Turin. We count ourselves extremely fortunate to have rather blindly chosen Le Stanza di Sara because not only did we discover a beautiful place to stay, we also had the delightful company of the owners who could not have been more helpful to our family! Where do I begin? They took care of us in every possible way. Beautiful and vivacious Cécile made sure to personally escort our hungry and travel weary family to a sweet restaurant (Enò in San Salvario) around the corner from their place. Real food and kind staff! Cécile and Salvatore (my kids were enchanted by him and are still talking about him!) helped us find a pharmacy to do our Covid test prior to our flight back to the US. They gave us tips on visiting the Palazzo Réale di Torino, as well as where to try the famous Torinese bicerin and exquisite chocolates! Best of all we were reminded of the virtues of slowing down and savouring good food, meaningful conversation and excellent company. I hope we can return to learn more about the Mediterran food festival they organise! As it happened we ended up returning to Le Stanza di Sara a second time after traveling down to Florence, Rome and Pompeii. This gave our family several more days (we stayed 2 nights in Turin at the start of our travels in Italy and 4 nights at the end!) to enjoy a bit more of Torino with Cecile and Salvatore as our home base. When you’re traveling with children you NEED a safe, quiet, relaxing and comforting home base. This B&B will be our home base in Turin from now on! We ended up staying two extra nights due to a mix up with our flight back to Washington DC. After heading out early (of course Salvatore and Cecile helped me with taxi booking since my Italian is nil) to Turin airport we ended up missing our Air France flight to Paris. In tears of frustration I quickly called Cécile to ask if she had space for us to return! Thankfully they had rooms for us and we could come “home” and regroup! You cannot imagine the relief to have some kind and friendly hosts to welcome us back. We took advantage of the extra days to take in even more of this gorgeous and exciting town. Great memories and dear friends made! As for the rooms and quality of our stay, the accommodations are beautiful with just the kind of unique antique feel I love. If you want IKEA or some version of a sterile impersonal cookie cutter hotel then this is not your place. It is mindfully furnished with the most beautiful antiques, and nothing is “standard”. Instead it’s a sweet set of beautifully restored rooms and a lovely breakfast room & cuisine or Convivio. It was lovely to be able to take an afternoon rest and have our 17 year old spend time reading or drawing in the Convivio or the lovely balcony overlooking the courtyard below. The kids became so comfortable in the neighborhood they would pop out to the little Borello grocery down the lane all on their own! The other huge help was they fact that Cécile and Salvatore speak English. My Italian is non existant as a result of spending my life studying French! So it was a wonderful relief to find a French- Italian couple hosting us. And superb hosts they are. We recommend them wholeheartedly!
