Chalet Del Cane Bianco

Very glad to have found this place nestled amongst many rustic buildings in Valdisotto - just minutes away from Bormio by car. This was a one night stopover for me as I was headed for the Stelvio Pass the next day - the start of which is around 15 minutes away by car. Peter, my host, was most welcoming and what he doesn't know about the area probably isn't worth knowing. He gave me some great tips about road routes to take, wines to buy and places to see including Livigno where petrol is only 80c a litre and many goods can be purchased tax and duty free due to its special status. The rooms at Chalet Del Cane Bianco are very well appointed and to a much higher standard than many hotels I've stayed at. Everything was spotlessly clean. The view down the valley is beautiful. The accommodation takes its name from the owner's beautiful Pyreneean mountain dog which they kindly let take "me" for a walk on the surrounding hills. He's probably one of the largest and most docile dogs I've ever seen and resides in what would have been part of the former farm animal shelter beneath the house. If you're worried about dogs I wouldn't be concerned as he's out of sight but is also great with kids some of which from the village came to say "hello" when I was walking him. I chose to eat in Bormio during the evening which is a town full of history and interesting places to see and to relax. Breakfast at the accommodation offered a wide and varied choice - you won't go hungry! They also have a decent bar area where they serve up refreshments. This is definitely one place I'd have no hesitation in staying at again and looks ideal for the ski season given the many facilities it offers.
