Fernando is the friendly owner of the campsite. He arranged two guided tours for us and also spent quite some time himself telling us about the Mayas and forest. Both topics he's very passionate about. Shown us around and up to his observation tower to see the stars. Fernando built the camping in a environmentally friendly way.
The food is basic (but fresh and locally sourced) and the camping too but for such a location in the jungle you can't ask for much more. 
Recommended for a nice stay to visit calakmul.

Calakmul visit

Beautiful place! The site overall is super beautiful with jungle all around! Very eco friendly which is nice but be prepared to wash yourself with a coconut and a bucket full of brown rain water. Eco friendly toilets and our campsite did not have a place to cook which I expected (being a place to camp) really nice clean and comfortable bedding for camping. I loved all the sounds of all the nature all around but overall really expensive for what you get.

Really expensive for what you get

I find it humorous to read reviews of people that talk about a poorly running shower or composting toilets when they go to an eco camp ground.  Yeah, the 'facilities' are not the Ritz, but it's a super rad place.  Tents are comfortable.  Being in the jungle is a super fun experience.  The hiking trails and lookout tower close by are cool.  Hearing howler monkeys at night is frightening but awesome. 

Someone mentioned the cost?  It's not that expensive to stay there, the food if you get it there is a bit more and may not have been my favorite...but hey, you're in the jungle...you can always bring your own food in.  Also.  bring your own water and snacks in to save some pesos :-) 

I found the people running it friendly but not in your business.  It's a place to go do your own thing.  When I was there there was only one other young couple staying there so you had the whole place for a nice peaceful retreat.  Def great option for a night.

Like rural and a fun adventure?

The key to so many experiences is expectation.  This site has no electricity or running water.  It is in the jungle.  There is a dirt road to get to it.  It is still an hour from Calakmul on a difficult road.  BUT - this is what we wanted and expected!  It is the closest lodging to Calakmul (someone else wrote there was a campsite closer to the ruins, but we did not see one).  It is very basic.  There is food available.  The campsite price and the food prices were high for what they were, but the place itself was great.  Oswaldo, the proprietor, was extremely friendly and helpful.

I expected a campsite in the jungle in Mexico, and this delivered!

A great place if you're looking for a little adventure. Tents were clean, bedding was clean. The accommodations are rustic and tidy. But, honestly if you're looking for some motel-like experience and or just want the convenience of being close to Calakmul, then you'd be better served by staying elsewhere. If you're looking a little adventure, a night in jungle with a tropical insects, snakes and howler monkeys, This is the place! :)

Great camping adventure

Beautifully looked after site with great jungle trails leading off around the campsite. The freshly cooked food is exceptional too - not sure what happened to the reviewer below. Our quesadillas were great. The chap running things is gruff to start off with, but lovely and a wealth of information when you get chatting. The Calakmul ruins are an hour’s drive away and worth as much time as you have to spend. Everything here invites you to slow down and next time we’ll definitely spend more nights camping here - offline, off grid and off exploring trails with our dog, who absolutely loved it. A total treat. Thank you.

What a gem of a place

The place is nice but the owner is extremely rude and just wanna rip off tourists. it is very expensive both to eat and to sleep there. He wanted to charge me 20 pesos for a banana when it is 10 pesos for kilo. When I complained he was extremely rude. Don't waste time and money the village close to the entrance it is much nicer everyone is friendly and for almost the same price you can get a proper room.

Pro's:
Closer to the Calakmul park and the site
Nice large tents, good matrasses
Tents don't leak during rain, and we had no trouble with bugs.
Bedlinnen was clean
Ecologic camp site, as they all should be (ecotoilet, rain water, ...).
Wonderful jungle sounds that wake you up and with which you go to sleep.

Con's:
Quite expensive (900peso's per night for two...)
Food was horrible (pick something else than the enchilladas con queso), although hungry I didn't manage to finish my plate, it was dry and very salty, worst meal in Mexico (and we also did Guatemala) and also quite expensive.
Rocky dangerous 1km road from the main paved road.
(these are minor details but worth considering if you need these amenities) no electricity, no WiFi.

For me the food and the price are the reason why my score is lower than the others. If I don't consider the restaurant I would score this "average"
I would advise to book online and not arrive on the spot (prices of booking.com are cheaper than on site).
