Quinta da Fontoura

We stayed at Quinta da Fontoura for 4 days during our last holiday in Portugal. We were looking for a quiet place to relax with our little daughter, but we found much more than that. The apartment we had was very spacy and offered everything we needed. The Quinta is an oasis of natural beauty, and we really enjoyed the biological swimming pool! It's also a venue for weddings, so the gardens are very well maintained. It has many picturesque terraces, a few hammocks (!), and when we were there the fig trees had plenty of delicious fruit. The quinta is close enough to Aveiro for an excursion and there's also a beautiful lake not too far away. Even though we were the only guests during our stay, our Portuguese hosts went out of their way to serve us a delicous Portuguese dinner every evening (including an unforgettable octopus stew) and we really appreciated their hospitality. Upon learning I was a wine enthusiast, the owner promptly pulled out several bottles of interesting Portuguese wine for me to sample. It was no problem to use their kitchen to prepare meals for our baby either. The only thing we noticed is that it can get rather cold in the apartment at night (it's an old traditional house, and we were a bit unlucky with the weather), but we found enough extra blankets and there was an additional heater in the baby's room to keep us warm. In short, I would recommend this Quinta to anyone looking for a place to relax in nature close to Aveiro.
