Had 5 nights here over Christmas and had not been to this hotel before. The rooms were really spacious. A great size dining kitchen and lounge area with a separate bedroom. Ample wardrobe space but hangers were difficult to move on the rails. The kitchen was really well equipped and you have to leave a €50 deposit on arrival which I knew about from other reviews. The breakfast buffet has a great selection and probably better than other hotels I’ve stayed at on the Algarve. The atmosphere is quiet and considering the hotel was full I didn’t actually see a huge amount of people around. There is a happy hour in the bar is good value and there is a big screen on there playing sports matches too. 
Room cleaned every day even Christmas Day, I put do not disturb on to save her cleaning but she still came in a cleaned !
Overall a really great stay.

As soon as you enter you are made to feel welcome. Clean rooms, great views, there is equipment for self catering if you want to use it, but why cook on holiday. We had fantastic Christmas dinner, and breakfast you can not complain about. Will definitely be back.

Excellent hotel, all areas very, very clean.  We had a one bedroom apartment which was very spacious.  We were only bed & breakfast, which was nice and plenty to choose from.  Hotel is very well run with helpful and friendly staff.  No one allowed to reserve beds with towels from early in the morning, and it worked really well, getting a sun bed was never an issue.  Really close to all amenities. Would return here in a minute.

One of the best apartment complexes I have ever stayed in!  The rooms were spacious, spotless and well catered for.  The staff could not have been more helpful or pleasant.  There is a connecting walkway to the beach and the on site pool is well maintained.  I would definitely recommend this complex to anyone thinking of visiting Monte Gordo!

Excellent apart hotel right on the beach but everything within walking distance.
Excellent restaurants very close by and if you like your sea view and fish your in the right place.
The one bedroom was  apartment we rented had a full sea view was very clean and cleaned everyday a basic kitchen with 2 hobs,microwave,coffee machine,fridge freezer.
The size of the apartment was very generous with a good size double bedroom,bathroom with shower over bath and a large open plan dining and lounge area.
Bar and pool area well looked after use of the hotel's beach towels main reception area very big with sofa's and day beds.
All in all an excellent place we are returning later this year for another 2 weeks.
Local train and bus services are good to get to other resorts nearby and taxis to the next resort are reasonable.

We stayed in Dunamar self-catering for 1 week in August - 2 adults and our 17yr old daughter. We booked through Jet2 and picked Dunamar due to its beachfront location and high rating with Jet2. We arrived at 1pm and were advised that check-in was from 4pm but to check back around 3pm. Changing facilities were available in the Spa and there was a secure storage room for our luggage. At 3pm we were allocated room 421 - a room with a sea view on the top floor. The rooms were reasonably spacious with a well equipped kitchen area including a large fridge. The bathroom had a large walk-in shower instead of a bath and it was excellent ! The rooms were cleaned every day and the entire resort was always clean. My only slightly negative comment could be that the rooms are quite dated looking and due an upgrade but this would not put me off booking again ! The pool area is spacious with plenty of sunbeds and the area is closed until 9am which was brilliant as no towels out at 6am !! If you prefer the beach then an automatic gate and a 30 second walk presented you with a stunning beach with sunbeds and parasols for 15 euro per day. We booked self catering but ended up having lunch at the pool bar every day because it is amazing !! The staff and the food really were brilliant. Great menu, very reasonably priced and the staff were very attentive - one of the best was Sandro Fernandez. We didn’t eat in the hotel at night and there are 7 restaurants situated along the beachfront only minutes walk away. Evening entertainment was very limited and the main  bar area was always very quiet - I think Dunamar definitely need to put some thought into reinventing this area. Overall a very good hotel, great location and we are very tempted to return soon !

I stayed for a week with my school running team. The food was great. Easy access to beach and Monte Gordo. The rooms were comfy. The staff were very friendly. I would definitely recommend it. I am now typing this to exceed the character limit.

Stunning hotel with easy access to the beach. It seemed popular with Portuguese holiday makers including many wheelchair users. The concierge service were brilliant but my top vote goes to the fabulously attentive restaurant staff.  They very quickly remembered our name & room number & were so helpful and friendly they gave this the fifth star. I also loved the time and effort they put into training the younger recruits on all the various roles. 
The rooms were functional but clean and I would recommend paying extra for a sea view. The town behind is quite built up and not that attractive.  Don’t expect holiday camp entertainment. We were directly above the bar and had no trouble with noise; the liveliest being a native folk singer with guitar. 
No problem ever getting a sunbed and the children even had one until it got busy late afternoon. The pool guy could be a little friendlier. 
Not the best location for sight seeing but a great getaway with pool and beach at your fingertips. 

Great place with great and friendly staff!
We stayed at Dunamar at the beginning of June as we needed some sunshine and some relax / family time and also because it was our daughter's 15th birthday.
We had a great time, accommodation was superb, food and service were delicious and reasonably priced, and they also organised a birthday cake to celebrate...great surprise!
All in all 10 out of 10...we will definitely return.

Extremely comfortable beds, well equipped kitchenette, aircon, Tv, great balcony with table and chairs and good Wifi. 
Staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. Cocktails were amazing. Pool area was very pleasant. 
Close walk to fantastic beach and close walk to the town. Every restaurant we went to was great. 
Highly recommend this place.

A great short stay at Christmas

I booked this last minute and it wasn't my first choice. However I'm glad I stayed here. The hotel was lovely..The staff were very friendly..in particular the restaurant staff. The hotel backs into the beach which was the prettiest beach I've ever been to. The rooms were spacious. The buffet breakfast was stereotypical with plenty of choice. The cocktails were a good price for a hotel. 7 euros. You can go to the gym or fitness classes but you have to pay as it's a private health club... 5 Euros.  I also booked in for a massage which was amazing. I'd stay here again. Downside ...the mattress was hard so I found it hard to sleep and the pool was absolutely Baltic. The sea was warmer to swim in.

Great hotel, great location and great value for money

One of the nicest hotels you'll find!

Nice spacious 1 bed apartment, comfy bed, side sea view, bath and shower and a short walk to the beach and lots of restaurants. My main criticism is the kitchen. Very poor equipment such as no chopping board, tiny tea cups and huge pans - how many people do they think are there.  Also beware the hot water temperature in bathroom and kitchen is scalding so if not paying attention you could burn yourself. Overall a pleasant place to stay and friendly staff.

Good Apartments

Usually stay at the Alcazar  but chose this for a change and have to say we were very pleasantly surprised.  

The apartment 421 was roomy and airy.  We paid extra for a sea view and it was totally worth every penny.  

The beds are comfortable, the sheets smooth and soft and the towels were soft and fluffy.  The loo roll is basic and toiletries limited to hand soap and shower gel.   There aren’t enough coat hangers (5/6 each) but plenty of drawer space and a full length mirror.   

The sofa and chair are adequate the sofa is a sofa bed for another two people if desired.   Coffee table.  Large smart TV - you can watch YouTube.  Nothing else in English.  

The kitchenette has most things you need.  Plenty of cutlery, bottle/tin opener, crockery, coffee machine, kettle, microwave and two electric rings with frying pan and two other large pans - nothing small.   Washing up liquid is provided but no dishcloth or sponge.  Tea towels are provided.  Complimentary bottle of still water in fridge.  The hob in the kitchen was slightly cracked and had been repaired with silicone. It really needs replacing as some of the heat numbers don’t work properly.   It is also very slow. 

Dining area - table and four chairs.  Comfy.  

Bathroom - walk in large powerful shower.  Plenty of hot water.   Good sized counter top and washbasin.  Bidet (no soap dispenser nearby). 

Toilet seat was loose and rickety.  Reported this upon arrival - maintenance did not arrive within our stay (7 days).  Still needs attention/refastening. 

Room keys - we had a lot of problems with these not working for the first couple of days.  Eventually resolved.  

Small issue with Dutch people reserving sunbeds all day and not being there.  I raised this at reception and Catarina told me I could move their belongings.  I pointed out that this wasn’t my job and should be done by a member of the hotel staff, as per their poolside notices, to avoid poolside arguments.   
She then got a man to put out some more sunbeds as the weather was nice and there weren’t enough available.  This solved the issue and should be done automatically.  

The room maids were lovely.   Very quick and efficient.

The reception staff are all very nice and helpful.  One thing we found unusual is having to leave either a cash deposit of €50 or credit card details. Not sure why?  Breakages?  

We didn’t use the restaurant or bar as we were self catering. 

We were very happy with our stay.  This hotel backs onto the beach which you can access easily via the boardwalk where there are plentiful bars and cafes.   

It suited us as it was quiet - in summer it may be too busy - I don’t know.   

We look forward to returning hopefully next Christmas.

Some room for improvement but we were very comfortable here.

We found a great value winter package from Jet2 to Dunamar: excellent accommodation with clean, spacious, modern apartments. Comfy sofa bed for once as well as main bedroom! Friendly, efficient staff.  Good kitchen facilities for self-catering. Basement health club is 5 euros a session to use the gym, small but modern equipment. Montegordo is very much a beach resort so it's quiet off-season but it's also an excellent location if you want to get around the eastern Algarve without hiring a car. Low cost taxis, cheap bike hire (town bikes,mountain bikes, ebikes all available) and a good train service with station under 10 minutes taxi ride away (4 to 5 euros). We cycled to nearby Vila Real town & Castro Marim village and its huge wetland nature reserve with hundreds of Flamingos - superb cycle paths to both. We also took the cheap ferry across to Ayamonte on the Spanish side of the river; got the train to Tavira and Faro - both beautiful cities; and walked in the expansive pine forest which is literally on the doorstep. We went on a great excursion with local operator Riosul. All in, a fab hotel in a top location for a stress-free family break.

Great hotel in stunning location

Me, my girlfriend  and our two kids(20 and 17) had an early morning flight from Gatwick. We arrived at the Dunamar hotel at 11am but was told we couldn’t book in until 4pm. When 4pm approached we went to book in and the receptionist gave us our key but the cleaner stopped us going in as she it wouldn’t be ready today.  We went back to reception and changed rooms…eventually! I did see other people book in at 2pm on other days! The room was nice with a sea view. The food was nice for breakfast and evening meal. The staff in restaurant were friendly and helpful. The lady that worked at the poolside bar was extremely rude and didn’t like us changing our mind on crisps or snacks. She was very moody! The pool was lovely and spent most of the week in the pool. The hotel didn’t have an pool tables, which was a shame. The hotel is in a quiet location with not much else to do. Most of the evening entertainment was in Portuguese and not much for the Brits. The week was very warm and relaxing.
