Hill House Park

This is no 5-Star hotel. BUT... having said that, it turned out to be a very clean and very pleasant hotel, with capable, friendly and helpful staff who spoke English, rooms (at least the better upstairs room that we had) are a reasonably decent size, and with a quite large bathroom. As noted by other reviewers, the bathrooms do have a bath, with the shower above the bath, AND... no shower screen...! This meant that one has to learn a few tricks by using the hand-held shower head and trying not to be splashing too much water onto the tiled bathroom floor. But we soon learned to get around this slight annoyance. Breakfast (for what it is...) is included, run by a somewhat bossy, yet never-the-less quite pleasant Korean woman. Breakfast was the same every day, and comprised (at your option) coffee, tea, cereal, cup noodles, toast, butter, jam, some Korean preserved vegetables, and sliced ham. While certainly not fancy eating, it was tasty, filling, and enough to get us on our way each day. For those with back problems: The mattresses on the beds in this hotel are VERY firm, so if you need a soft mattress to sleep on, for whatever reason, then unfortunately you will not enjoy the beds at Hill House Hotel. I do have back problems, and the first couple of nights were more than a little uncomfortable for me, although my partner slept like a log. But I somehow adjusted my sleeping positions as the nights passed such that I was able to get some reasonable sleep each night. But some people might find these (presumably Korean traditional) very firm mattresses a bit hard to take. (Pun intended.) The hotel is located in what might seem to be some back-water of Seoul, and I guess to an extent it is. However, if you don't mind walking, it is barely 10 minutes walk for one of two Metro stations, and a 10-minute walk from the famous Myeong-dong shopping area, which itself is definitely worth a visit. So even though located in a very minor backstreet, we ALWAYS felt safe there at night, there is a 7-Eleven store at the end of the street, and a small supermarket just across and down a few doors from the 7-Eleven. Put simply, albeit the street area (and that last short steep hill walk) is not celebrious, it actually is in a very good location for access to a lot of the good things you will want to see and do while in Seoul. Even just a 10-15 minute walk to the N Seoul Tower, which is quite nearby. If ever we get back to Seoul again, then we would definitely consider staying at Hill House Hotel.
