For people who prefer to avoid the chaos of the tourist districts of Bangkok, this is an excellent option. As others have said, the place achieves hospital-level standards of cleanliness, and the rooms are attractively laid out. Everything that ought to work, including air-conditioning, hot water and internet, does. The proprietor, who went to university in the United States, speaks excellent English and is helpful and considerate. Amenities are within easy reach, including a supermarket, a 7-11 convenience shop and a chemist's all within 200 metres. If I return to Bangkok, I'll stay here again. Gettting there is manageable even if one doesn't take a taxi. I walked the 8.5 km from Phaya Thai station the night I arrived; it took me around an hour and twenty minutes without killing myself. For those who don't want the exercise, the most convenient option might be to take the water 'bus to Phra Pin Klao bridge (pier no. 12); it's about a twelve-minute walk from there. The no. 511 'bus is also an option. One doesn't stay at the Sunset Residence, though, because one wants to be in the thick of things. It's a place for those who are looking for a tranquil and agreeable alternative. In that regard, it fits the bill very well.
