We enjoyed our stay at Bang luang on the Klong in Thonburi. Although it's only 20 minutes away on the Blue Line MRTR, it's a real contrast to the constant buzz of Bangkok. It's quiet in the mornings but as the day gets going Bang luang gets busy with visitors walking past, and numerous long tail boats passing by to feed the fish (there are literally hundreds of them - fish not boats). It's never too much though, and there are good restaurants locally, and coffee at the nearby Artists House. Our room was very comfortable with nice aircon, and a good sized bathroom. It was immaculately clean and we were very well looked after by June and her husband as hosts. And the breakfasts were great - they made an effort to get Thai food because we didn't want the normal western breakfast. The hosts are very attentive, and helped us with our travel plans. They are genuinely interested, and nothing is too much trouble. The nearest Blue Line Station is Bang Phai which is a pleasant 15 minute walk, and then a short and very cheap ride into Bangkok. Tha Phra is also close, and there are plenty of taxis when you arrive or leave with luggage. For an alternative Bangkok vibe, we thoroughly recommend it.
