After multiple trips to Koh Chang, I still don’t really have a go-to restaurant in the area. (I always stay at the Spa at Koh Chang on the less busy side of the island.) Anyway, tonight I tried Rommai Chailay. And I am really glad that I did. Pretty bayside view, quiet and basically without customers. Service is relaxed in the Thai manner; you may have to walk over to the lying-down granny to add to your order. Yet the food is extremely good and also cheap. A very solid seafood-dining find on Koh Chang. Soft-shell crab is one of my favorite things on earth and it is done very well here. For transcendent delight, ask for soft-shell crab in yellow curry, which is available but not on the menu. (Request “Poo neem pad pong ga-ree”.)
