Kooncharaburi Resort 

I came across this place last January on a bike trip sightseeing when my wife and I were staying on the other side of Koh Chang, took one look at the pools, and the view from the terrace and fell totally in love with the place. It’s stunning. 1km down a dirt track from the road past mangroves and jungle (we saw monkeys as we arrived!) - and then they showed us the rooms. Wow! This is the quiet side of the island so it’s not great if you want nightlife, most places are closed by 7:00pm. But if you’re after peaceful and beautiful this place is very hard to beat. I’ve read some really bad reviews of this place which I frankly don’t understand. We asked what kind of price they could give us if we stayed for month, got a good deal, so we’ve been here the whole month, leaving tomorrow. We have loved every day. They do daily, weekly & monthly rates. Food here is good, and reasonably priced. Cheap and cheerful, rather than haute cuisine, with large portions. Their cocktails aren’t great but they are cheap, and the view from their terrace/bar area is unbelievable. The staff have been lovely; friendly, helpful - they drove me to a bike rental place so I could hire a bike (needed round here; it’s a long way to get anywhere), and even recharged the battery for me when I flattened by leaving it turned on. The pool is the best I’ve seen in a hotel; it’s huge, and the view across the bay from the deep end is just breathtaking. The bay is quite shallow, you can walk across at low tide. So we’ve mostly swum in the pool. The hot tub wasn’t in operation while we were here so I can’t speak to that. Our seafront room is enormous. The en-suite has shower, a bathtub!!, and is bigger than some bedrooms I’ve seen. Our room has a writing desk, a chaise longe, occasional table, fridge, two bedside cabinets, enormous bed, super comfy mattress and pillows, with a sea view balcony which has a table and chairs for morning coffee. Because we booked the month they gave us a t.v. as well so we’ve been watching downloaded movies and box sets. We’re off to Vietnam tomorrow but will definitely come back next year. Do yourself a favour and ignore the negative reviews HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
