       Having this Inn recommended to us by two separate parties we booked our stay.  This is not the "run of the mill" hotel, but an older, established Inn set in the mountains in a rustic setting.

       Imagine having a real key to open your door!  Our room was super clean affording a great night's rest each night of our stay. This facility offers fresh air, great "home style" meals served for all at the same time each day with seating around round tables with a "Lazy Susan" method of dispensing the food, along with dedicated serving staff members so you don't have to leave your seat until the dining is done. This style of dining allows all guests, many that have been going there for years, to become acquainted and fellowship together.

       This peaceful setting has a Christian based atmosphere that is family friendly for those of faith and for those desiring such a path.  After this season the Inn will be managed by new partners the have indicated they plan to carry on the same tradition with possible expansions ~ and we certainly plan to be back!

A great stay that yielded true rest!

Just got done with wife’s back surgery and daughter’s wedding. Needed a break. Been to Hemlock Inn several times over the years and it never disappoints. Mort and staff make it a respite. They are more like stress missionaries rather than inn keepers. Accommodations and food perfect. No distractions but peace and a friendly smile. Thank you Mort and all for your place in our life’s journeys.

Fall Trip

My husband and I had the opportunity to take a short vacation.  Luckily, I found the Hemlock Inn during my internet search.  If you want a relaxing atmosphere and great food, this is the place.  The innkeeper Mort was so kind and helpful.  The Inn is a cross between a traditional Bed & Breakfast and a "Motor Lodge" I visited as a kid in the 60's.  The room was very comfortable.  The scenery was amazing.  The Inn is less than 5 minutes from Deep Creek Park.  The country-style food was fantastic.  Nothing frou-frou just food like Granny used to make.  Mort and his staff have gone to great lengths to ensure the safety of their guests.  Plenty of hand sanitizer, social distancing and mask wearing in the common areas.  My only regret is that we could not stay longer.  One suggestion is BYOP, bring your own pillow.  I like a firm pillow and forgot to bring mine.  So if you want to get away from the stress of daily life and ditch your diet for a few days, this is the place.

Relaxing atmosphere and great food

I had not been to the Hemlock Inn in almost 30 years, but coming back to the Hemlock Inn was like coming home. There are small quibbles (the sink in the bathroom never emptied properly, for instance), but those minor details cannot take away from the amazing family-style ambiance of the Hemlock Inn. The food (both breakfast and dinner is served) is fantastic home-style food. The camaraderie that is accomplished because you sit at each meal with others, is unmatched at any place I have ever visited.  The rooms are very comfortable. The view from the back porch is fantastic. I have never had a better experience at at any accommodation in the U.S. We also had some fantastic hikes in the Great Smoky Mtns National Park. I recommend the NC side of the park -- it so more laid-back and homey than the TN side.

One of my favorite places to stay in the whole U.S.

My wife and I just stayed for two days at the Hemlock Inn. It was recommended to us by friends who stay there often.  The Inn has been in the same family since the late 1960s (two generations of owners), so there is a continuity and love they exhibit for the property.  Meals (breakfast and lunc) are included in the room price.  Meals are served family style so you get to know your eating partners.  During COVID we had more than enough spacing between us. (If you are not a fan of southern cooking you may wish to ask the owner, Mort, if you can opt out of the meals.)  The Inn is situated about 5-6 miles outside of Bryson City, which is a very nice little tourist town on the border of Great Smoky Mountains NP. The hills and mountains make for a truly lovely vista.
The buildings are beginning to look a bit care worn, but they are clean, furnished in a homey fashion, and appear to be reasonably well-maintained. Given the beautiful surroundings, friendliness of the owner and staff, and the quiet atmosphere provided by being distanced from too much society, I would say that it is a perfect spot to curl up with a book, or spend lots of time conversing with friends. (There is no swimming pool or other outdoor activities.) If you want to be out of range of the internet or WiFi, this is your spot.  Mostly quiet and peaceful surrounds - a retreat of sorts.

First time visitor - lovely setting

As a trip with our family of 6, we wanted time outdoors, unplugged and stress-free. The Hemlock Inn delivered! The unspoiled nature view from the front porch red rockers was peaceful and delightful.
Mort, the owner, is kind, hospitable and so hardworking. We did not know until the second day that they were a little short-staffed, which is why he was working around the clock to serve the guests!
We stayed in the Innkeeper's Cottage, which seems like it might have one time been an innkeeper's actual cottage. It was spacious and clean and fit our family of 6 with the addition of two bunk beds in the laundry room.
You can expect country cooking - our kids even tried fried chicken livers! Do not miss the apple chips with a warm biscuit and butter!
Our favorites were the short hike on the property, tubing at Deep Creek (so close by and SO MUCH FUN), and a drive into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Though it was a 45 minute drive, the Alum Cave hike was worth it. We had a glorious sighting of elk right on the roadside and only wished we would have had more time there.
It's an easy drive to the Nantahala Outdoor Center (gorgeous, family-friendly whitewater rafting) and Bryson City, where we tried all the different ice cream shops we could find.
5 stars is easy to give. It's a bit of an older property, but that's what we were looking for - simple, family friendly and slow-paced.

Great Family Mountain Getaway

Due to COVID19, our travel is now local only. While trying to find somewhere that was safe and clean, I was lucky enough to find the Hemlock Inn. From the first conversation through our stay, everything was exactly as I had hoped for our family trip! The food was amazing too! What a treat! We took hikes on the property too. It was very clean and safe during this time also, which was extremely important to our family. Thank you to the entire staff! We hope to return again soon! 

We will DEFINITELY be back!

This is more like a B&B ran by family that treats you like family.  Rooms are clean and comfortable, decor is retro and fits the whole experience of going back to a simple time.  No TVs in rooms, 50+ acres to explore and wonder.  Kids catching fireflies, families taking hikes. Oh and the fabulous food!  Serve breakfast and dinner, all home cooking and delicious.  Right near Cherokee NC, Great Smokie Mountain National Park, and  Bryson NC.  Good thing there is so much great hiking, given the great meals you need to work it off.  If you are looking to get away this is the place.  They also have cabins.  Don't stay in a boring hotel, make this your home away from home.

Peace and Solitude - family friendly inn a taste of yesteryear

Hives and old bed pillow/ blankets. The loudest and most sleepless night of my vacations.
While the rooms are quaint, the bed is extremely rough. Old pillows and blankets cover the bed. During our one night get away, I broke out in hives during the night. There are only two towels per room as well. They mention make up remover cloths, which still remain a mystery to be found. There was hair on the shower walls and the toilet handle had to constantly be jiggled to stop it from running. Other guests were extremely louD AND RUDE after "quiet hours". Unfortunately, our little romantic get away turned into a night of sleeplessness. There was a screaming child next door to us. I called the desk shortly after we arrived to the room for the night. I was told by a girl at the desk that things would be taken care of. The noise continued well into the night and no one would pick up in the office.
Also if you want food after 9:30pm, you wont find any place to deliver to the hotel. They also offer no morning breakfast. Even after booking a room, to my surprise it was more then what was origionally stated. Almost $150 per night. Over priced for what is offered I should have stayed in the resort down the road. I wont stay here again. Especially now that I have to pay for a hospital visit due to an allergic reaction to whatever is used to clean those rooms/beds if they are at all cleaned. Also,what do you do with the old pillows they use to decorate the bed? How many people throw them on the floor? If you read the review multiple people ask the same question. They state that they "change the linens once a year", im not exactly sure what this means. I would like a refund! Note to the owner, I didnt come in the office, I called the desk. Your little "you had problems paying for the room" comment, it was because of your machine noted by the good folks at capital one! My room was booked online and you told me you never recieved it even though I had a conformation number. Also, I did call and asked for a refund and was rudely dismissed by the young staff you have working there. Anyone who disagrees with your put of date mom and pop hotel is instantly wrong! I have made an attempt to get a refund, but I'm sure your teenage staff told you about that. You have my phone number on record, give me a call. As of now I have an ER bill due to your negligence. P.S. If I drive a charger, there isnt any problem paying for a room. Stop having children run a hotel.

Hives

Recently (late Dec. 2019) 11 members of our family gathered at the Hemlock for a fun time.  The facility was very clean and the staff was very warm and friendly.  Could not have been any nicer.  The room we stayed in was neat and very clean.  Decor was a bit dated, but overall it was very nice.   The food served at breakfast and dinner was very good.  The waiters were warm, friendly, and devoted to being sure you enjoyed your meal.  The food was better than good and they kept serving until everyone was stuffed.  A very positive atmospher.   The grounds and the scenery were beautiful.  
No TV's and limited wifi (only at main lodge) is a plus or a minus depending on your perspective.
We would go again and it definitely has our stamp of approval.
