Our planned two-week stay at the Cortsland Hotel in Antigua turned into an unforgettable experience that exceeded all expectations. From the moment our group of 11 arrived from the UK, we were warmly welcomed with hospitality that set the tone for the entire stay. To our delightful surprise, some aspects of our booking were upgraded, adding an extra layer of comfort and privacy that we truly appreciated. Throughout our stay, Hazel, the owner of the Cortsland Hotel, went above and beyond to ensure that every guest felt valued and cared for. Breakfast, prepared and served by the lovely Cynthia each morning, was a highlight, setting us up for wonderful days ahead. The reception area and lounge were elegantly designed, providing a relaxing atmosphere, with easy access to the refreshing swimming pool.We all had a fantastic time and highly recommend the Cortsland Hotel for an unforgettable experience in Antigua!

Wonderful stay ☀️

Well located hotel for anyone not wanting a beach holiday - ideal for business, sports tours and transit. The rooms are comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. There is wifi but may be variable in certain locations.  Room options are with a balcony or with a kitchenette. Beautiful garden setting. Secure and peaceful. Easy access to Airport (15 mins taxi, USD 20 or ECD 54), St. Johns' (walk 20 mins to Redcliffe Quay, 15-20 mins taxi (ECD 20) depending on traffic), Woods Centre (10 minutes walk, 5 minutes taxi (ECD15)), Village Walk 15 minutes walk, 5 minutes taxi (ECD15)), Antigua North 5 minute walk through the back gate (ask for it to be opened).  Meals at the hotel need to be pre-booked, but plenty of nearby restaurants, all walk-able, and recommended include Papa Zouks (seafood and rum) (5 minutes), House of Bo (Philippino run Asian/ Chinese/ sushi) adjacent to Woods Centre. Spices of India/ Roadrunner Pizza (both takeaway but there are seats to 'eat in' at Village Walk. Bellas cafe at Village Walk. Within 10 minutes taxi ride are numerous other restaurants. Small supermarkets are nearby, Epicurian (less than 10 minutes taxi) and also two supermarkets at Woods Centre.

I stayed at Cortsland several times for 6 week spells between September 2021 and June 2023. I would recommend it as the most pleasant place to stay as a base if working in St. Johns.

If working in the town centre - as I was - this is a good location but that is its main selling point.
Like all hotels in Antigua it is very expensive - both room and food.
It does not really function as an hotel more like serviced rooms and a halls of residence for students.
The rooms are a long way from the main building which means getting wet when raining to go to breakfast or evening meal.  All meals have to be ordered in advance.
The rooms are only cleaned intermittently.
The staff are very friendly.
Some of the guests were less so - with loud music and offers of drugs.

Not reaaly a hotel

I stayed at the Cortsland for 14 months up to June 2022, while on business in Antigua. I chose it because of its proximity to my workplace, but I had also stayed at 2 other nearby hotels for short periods before settling on the Cortsland.

The rooms are a little tired but comfortable, with aircon, cable TV and free W-Fi. Most rooms have a microwave, fridge, electric jug, iron and ironing board and some have a full kitchen. All have ample storage room for luggage. There are several configurations of rooms to cater for solo guests to families.

The grounds are spacious with laws and gardens, and overall the hotel is very quiet. There is an onsite laundry where you can do a load of washing and drying for US $5 each. There is no formal restaurant, but breakfast can be served with notice the day before, and other meals by notifying the front desk in advance. The pool is great on a hot day. 

It is a 15-minute walk to Woods Centre, with supermarkets, and ATMs. There are eateries in Village Walk next door. Other good nearby eateries are John’s Delicious Pizza (5-minute walk) and GEFSI (10-minute walk). It is a 20-minute walk to downtown St John’s itself. Note that a lot of places are closed on Sundays. It is a 5 to 10-minute taxi ride to Fort James Beach, a public beach, and the fort itself, a historical site.

Overall, I was very pleased with my stay and can recommend it to certain types of travellers. It would suit those on business, cricket supporters, sports teams, yacht crews preparing for races, long term medical students and the like. Maybe tourists who have finished their package at a high-end resort and have a spare day before flying out.

Decent rooms and handy location

Visited for a short period. The front desk worker Ms. Dunnah was very warm and welcoming. She made us feel at home.. great tasting food and very nice air conditioned room.. i enjoyed the pool. enjoyed my stay

Stay

All the 5-star luxury resorts are scattered round the beaches of Antigua, so there is very little in or near downtown St John's. This is a quiet little oasis, tucked away on a quiet road 1 km from the heart of downtown. Not flash, not fancy, but perfectly adequate, friendly people, and very good value.
If you are touring the island, you'd need to hire a car, probably with a driver. But for a couple of nights you can get by with the friendly/reasonable local taxis, who'll zip you into town for dinner, once the cruise ships have departed, and the locals will be grateful for a bit of evening custom.

Quiet, friendly, relaxing property 15 minutes from downtown St. John's

No restaurant, not bar, but advised these in were in the website  amenities, clueless receptionist, pool filthy, broken furniture. Horrible place. Taxi ride from Airport was further than the website said.

Very nice small hotel but seem to be undergoing some challenge.  Looks dated and worn out.  Lights out by 10.  No night auditor and owner appear to live on property.  Friendly staff but ver unfriendly security person.  Nice surrounding but needs cleaning.

Needs Upkeep

This is a strange one - we stayed one night before a connecting flight to Guadeloupe and another night before the flight back to the UK.
The Cortsland Hotel is a good functional short stay hotel, reasonably close to the airport. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfy and the bathroom has good quality towels. There is also a fridge and TV in the room. The first room we stayed in had a far superior air conditioner - in the second room it was noisy and rather ineffective. 
We had breakfast on the first morning which, while lacking in choice, was made fresh to order and tasted fine. When we returned for our final stay, as we arrived early evening, we were unable to have dinner, but were offered soup and bread as an alternative - we declined this and ordered a taxi into town and headed to 'The Beehive' - which was great.
The hotel is situated in a residential area and walking into town early evening on the first night, we ran the gauntlet past many gardens containing barking dogs, however, all were behind fences so it was not a problem to us, but be aware, if you are nervous of dogs, order a taxi - these dogs also do tend to bark throughout the night, so bring ear plugs.
The hotel grounds are just lovely, they are really quite extensive and extremely well maintained.
The staff were very courteous and helpful and while the hotel did not appear to have a bar that was open, you only had to ask at reception and beer and soft drinks were brought out to you. The hotel does have a pool but we didn't use it.
Many of the hotel guests are apparently, medical students so it did seem like we were the only people there - we did see one other couple on our first night but apart from that, the hotel appeared deserted. 
We paid for a late check out before our evening flight home, so were able to make the most of our one day in Antigua and visited Nelson's Dockyard, which was great, and in hindsight, we wished we had spent less time in Guadeloupe and more time in Antigua - the people were so much more friendly and the service far superior.
The Cortsland Hotel was an economical choice for a couple of overnight stays and suited us fine, but when we return to Antigua (and we will) we would choose a hotel nearer to the beach, but if all you want is a night in a clean room with a comfy bed and lovely helpful staff, then I can recommend it.

Good Overnight Hotel

I had to spend 3 weeks in Antigua due to a medical emergency concerning my husband.  The hospitality and genuine friendship extended by the staff and Mrs. Corts was amazing.  Can't recommend highly enough.  Affordable, central location, lovely room with small patio.  The Cortsland is not a cold, modern, cookie-cutter place, but you are surrounded by a beautiful lawn and gardens.  This is not a touristy resort hotel.  Thank goodness for that.  The staff and their courtesy warmed my heart and helped me through a very tough time.  Each morning when I came to the lobby, Jean would have a carafe of coffee waiting by my favorite chair. Little things like that make the Cortsland Hotel a real winner.  I feel proud that I can recommend them highly.
