Broken hostel.
My friend put her hand on the sink and the sink broke - they asked from us to pay for it even the sink probably was broken before.
There is no hot water for shower - not at night and not at morning.
The pool is dirty and not welcoming.
My friend opened the kitchen closet and a saw a bug.
Not recommended by me.

We stayed there 3 nights, it was a nightmare!

The room door and bathroom door did not close properly; 
The shower had no curtain (leading to standard 2cm water everywhere);
There was a cockroach net in the wall and the room was dirty;
Breakfast was a joke, and the swimming pool super dirty;
The receptionist and the owner were very rude and repeatedly lied to us.

We were told that the air conditioning did not work ONLY after paying, with no possibility to change room, and that it would be fixed the next morning. Obviously it did not happen, so we slept 2 nights in 35 degrees, 60% humidity. The 3rd night it got fixed by a friend of the owner.

After a long discussion, we got 1200 pesos back (the entire reserve was 7000+ ), but then we were notified that they would mark our booking as "no-show" on Booking.com, in order for them not to pay the commission and for us not to be able to leave a negative review.

I would NOT recommend this place to anyone.

Never again!!

Relaxed hostel 3 blocks from bus terminal, 10min walk to downtown & restaurants.  Clean bath with hot water. Kitchen with basic tools to make simple meals. Small swimming pool. Very basic breakfast includes bread and fruit.

Pay a few extra pesos for a better place because this place is desicable and horrendous. Barely any wifi, 3 major blackouts with no concern for guests or any attempt to resolve the matter! Guests that stayed were ugly disgusting and rude, all over 70 with an attitude to other backpackers. Breakfast sucked was recycled food kept in the fridges unwrapped and served the following morning. Bugs everywhere, even inside the pillows. Dirty bathrooms. Poor excuse.

the only positive about this hostel was the location, it's in close proximity to restaurants/bars. It cost us 1400 peso return in a taxi to get to the Brazillian side of waterfalls and 1300 to get the Argentinian side.

Stay somewhere else

Dirty. Rude staff. Cockroaches in bedroom and bathroom. Bed sheets were super thin and felt horrible on your skin. Wifi didn't work at all in the day and was very slow when it did work. Breakfast was dry bread and oranges - pointless. Strange atmosphere. Night staff played music really loud until very late which made it hard to sleep. Gaps under the walls which let light and noise in from the next room. Shower was horrible. Pool was dirty. Nothing good to say about this place at all. Do not stay here!!!

Worst hostel of our trip so far

We chose to stay here for 2 nights as it was located close to the bus stop where the buses depart to take you to Iguassu Falls. This is about the only thing good about the hostel. And the cake a breakfast was good.

The bedsheets had clearly not been changed since the last guests as there was a bad odour coming from them. The shower was freezing cold - no hot water apparently. This also meant that you could wash kitchen utensils hygienically. 

All in all an ok hostel for the price/location. A bit more effort on their part and it could be really nice.


Ok hostel... not great but not bad either

Hostel is an old converted house. A little dated but kind of charming. Nice outdoor areas.
No lockers available in the dorm and storage is tight. 
Internet is very slow but does work most of the time. 
Only 1 bathroom for the 4 dorms downstairs which meant you always had to wait a long time. 
Did not take credit card as listed and charged me more than the booked price. 
It seems that some locals stay here and arrive in the middle of the night. The hostel staff have no issue with turning lights on at 1am for the arrivals.

We had the worst experience we have ever had with a hostel at El Guembe. Even though we booked two rooms, and we confirmed our booking several times when they contacted us, we only got one room when we arrived. After we had negotiated a discount twice because of this inconvenience, paid the amount agreed upon and checked out, they sent us a message telling us they had filed a police report because of non-payment (see attached photo). They also wanted us to tell Booking.com that we never checked-in. They probably attempted to scare us to make us pay for what we did not get, and to stop us from writing a review on Booking.com. Furthermore, they tried to make us pay VAT, claiming that it was a fee to Booking.com, when they obviously know that foreigners are exempt from it. Except from this, the hostel was quite nice for its price range with a pleasant communal area outside where we could play ping pong and have a swim.

Tuvimos la peor experiencia jamás en El Guembe Hostel. Aunque habiamos reservado dos habitaciones, y los habiamos confirmado varios veces que realmente queríamos dos habitaciones para cinco personas, nos dieron una sola habitacion cuando llegamos. Despues de haber negociado un precio más bajo por la inconvencia y por solo haber usado una habitación, y después de haber pagado y hecho el check-out, nos mandaron un mensaje diciendo que nos habian denunciado a la policia por no pagar (adjunto foto). Tambien nos pidieron que avisáramos a booking.com que nunca hubieramos hecho check-in. Pensamos que su objetivo era impedir que los hiciera un review en booking.com. Luego, querían que pagaramos el IVA, aunque sabían muy bien que no se cobra impuestos de alojamiento a extranjeros en Argentina. A pesar de todo eso, el hostel era bastante lindo considerando el precio, con una area muy linda afuera para juntarse con los otros huéspedes. Y la cocina era limpia, con todo el equipo necesario para cocinar.

Good hostel, with swimming pool and very good breakfast.
Good situation and nice staff ! 

The wifi is not good, and a dorm 5 beds is very small, but there is air conditioner ! 

I didn't appreciate because they told me I must pay a tax of pollution/ecologic (something like this) to be able to entry in Iguazu falls, in fact, they lied me because nobody ask for this ! And they didn't ask to pay this to all guests !
