First the good-the hostess, Nani, is very accommodating, soft-spoken and kind and her service was good.  Now the rest,  if you like to be around lots of dogs this will be a plus.  Access is noted by very small sign located at stop light at exactly KM 8.5 on ruta 105.  Entering this extensive property you will find the internal roads are at best ox-cart suitable and no signs are available to point the direction to the primary residence.  Although this was obviously a well operated estancia sometime in the past, now it is strewn with crumbling buildings.  The residence it self was clean, but in need of considerable maintenance--our toilet didn't work,  when it rained the roof of the living room area leaked, and if the power goes out expect only candle power--and, yes, it did.

$240 pp,  Really?

First of all, the place is very difficult to find especially when it is already dark; there is only a very small sign on a fence on route 105 which we happen to see by chance. The place is special but it is not well maintained; it is in fact quite run down and certainly not worth US$210 per person per night. The food, breakfast, dinner and drinks included in the price, is very basic. Our room was spacious, but not homely; it had hardly any light at night and felt quite depressing. The beds, the bed linen and the bathroom were absolutely awful, dating from the early 1900s! What is nice about this estancia are the grounds with wonderful vegetation; the early 20th century brick buildings from the time the yerba mate production flourished there, are interesting, but are now also in a state of neglect. I would not recommend staying there, certainly not for this price

Disappointing

Staying at Estancia Santa Ines is an experience like no other - we had the most magical time.  Nanni and Angelique were amazing and after 2 days with them, we felt like we were a part of their family!

This is like stepping back in time to the colonial days when Nanni's grandfather came to Argentina and built his home and Mate farm.  The house is an Aladin's cave of memorabilia, and Nanni has beautiful stories to tell about the house, farm and her family - all shared with a beautiful passion.  We explored the forest with her, picked Avocados and watched monkey's in the trees around the house; horse riding to the volcanic pool and taking Mate with Nanni on the verrandah in the afternoon sunshine all added to the charm of this place.  

Combine all of this with the delicious home-cooked food and selected wines with Nanni and her niece joining us at mealtimes and you can complete the experience.

A magical step back in time to a gentler period and pace of life

This Estancia has been in the family since it was built by Nanni's grandfather. Guests are welcomed as family guests. For anyone who likes peace and quite and an intimate atmosphere it is wonderful. The house itself is perhaps in need of some updating but riding a horse through the Mate plantation to the volcanic rock swimming pool was something I will never forget.

A very special place

Staying in Estancia Santa Ines is a very unique experience. As we arrived there with my wife late in the night, because we were lost on the way, covered in mud, Nina welcomed us with all her kindness. After our shower, she served us a delicious homemade dinner. In our old fashioned large room, we spent then a delicious night, lulled by the sounds of the jungle around. We had the chance to be there the 31th of december, so we were invited to share the Eve dinner with the family. The Nani's brother, Ricardo, had cooked fabulous meat meals with mushrooms and Nani had prepared many exquisites desserts. Argentinian wines completed the feast. But over all, we shared a very strong relationship with everyone in this so beautiful and special place. Don't blame us if we are keeping for us some secrets about this stay... for gentlemen and gentlewomen only !
