We were recomended this place by a friend from home and we would like to recommend it to every other couple/family who wish to visit Mendoza and it’s surroundings. The place is a bus ride away from the city which makes it very nice and quite. The athmosphere is very cozy with the family owned hotel filled with olive trees, cute puppies and a “sometimes about” restaurant. The owner however, deserves an award for themselves. They were more than helpful and offered several things, that no other hotel/hostel staff would even consider as taking us for a bike ride, washing our clothes, help us cook, move us to a better and more luxurious room etc. All in all this is defintely a place to visit if you’re tired of the big cities and need to relax in a profound environment. 

A cozy Oasis in the middel of a wine paradise

Nice, small quiet hotel, great olive oil from own production, Restaurant is excellent. A nice place with great atmosphere. Rooms are good, good parking place. Very friendly staff. A bit tricky to find.

Maurico is the best host

I don’t write many reviews. This one deserves the time and attention they afforded us. If I could give 6 stars or more I would. I think it comes from AUTHENTIC customer service.   Even calling it customer service somehow dimishes the experience. We were treated better than family at Hotel Molino La Tabaida.  Every single interaction was one taken with care and love. We arrived a bit lost after having had a bit of a bait and switch experience in another cabana... we were tired after a long day of travel with 4 kids and feeling a bit desperate. When the rooms they had available wouldn’t accommodate us for the shear number of people we were (a group of 7) in high season... they rallied together, built beds, moved furniture all while making room at the fully-booked reservation only 5 Star restaurant on site. And the kids at a 5 Star restaurant you ask? 2 hours after bedtime? They set up a special bench and fire pit (yes, safe) for the kids to cozy up and watch a movie while we finally had dinner! This was the start of an increíble week The nights he restaurant was t opened, hey invited us to use the kitchen and host our own asado.  And quaint sweetness doesn’t do it justice. Around every corner is a hidden gem that leaves you begging for more of their family story. We couldn’t stop taking pictures of the grounds. So well thought through. If you make it all he way to Mendoza Argentina “vale la pena” it’s worth every minute to drive 30 more minutes to find this little slice of heaven where you will be greeted with open arms. 

Do.Not.Miss!

Sadly, we did not get to meet Isabel who we have read so much about and who sounds like the most wonderful host. Hopefully it is a temporary absence.

We did notice on the website that the restaurant was not currently functioning (although booking.com still advertises a restaurant). When we enquired about booking we asked if the restaurant would be open during our stay and were assured it would be. When we arrived there was no restaurant. Reading more reviews it seems Isabel was responsible for the restaurant.

This place really needs the restaurant (and Isabel) to make it work. Otherwise you end up a little stuck in an out of the way location with no really good places to eat nearby. We would not have booked if they had told us that the restaurant would still not be functioning when we arrived.

Apart from that the place looked a little like it was lacking some love... 

BUT

My son loved exploring the place and the cats and dogs.

it is in a lovely location, perhaps if you have a car (although very long drive for good food). The rooms were clean (except under the beds) and nicely decorated. The breakfast was good. The service was helpful on some things and less so on others. 

The best thing was the pool which was a lovely temperature, however unlike some of the pictures there was no where comfortable to sit around the pool. There were small rusty chairs and I think old olive press mats, that were also metal and so rusty, as tables, nice idea but not overly appealing.

Before you stay here check if Isabel will be around and if the restaurant will be functioning (although we have found that we were not given the correct information on the latter on this occasion)! 

We were glad we were only staying one night. It was supposed to be a little treat with a nice meal onsite but we were rather dissappointed.

Going downhill?

My husband, older sons, and I stayed here as part of a two-week road trip in July 2013. The most important thing to know if you are planning a stay is that San Martin is a town about 45 mins east of Mendoza. We took the overnight bus from BA to Mendoza, and asked the driver to stop in San Martin, which he did.  San Martin itself is unremarkable, but Molino La Tebaida is a self-sustaining oasis with a lovely common area where you can relax, have breakfast (the homemade mezalunas are to die for) and then, later in the evening have a drink, play cards, and, yes, access the free wireless internet (which worked just fine when we were there).  At night the quaint space with antique tables and chairs transforms into a restaurant serving truly excellent food and local wines.  Isabel -- one of the nicest people you'll ever meet -- changes the menu daily based on what is in season, and I think I had one of the best pieces of salmon I've ever eaten there.  Her humitas and, of course, steaks, were also highlights.  My husband and I had one of the blue-doored rooms in the older building while our boys stayed in a double in the newer building, which they were pleased to find had a TV.  Our room was absolutely darling, with simple, rustic furnishings (no TV!) and the bed looking through the blue-door windows to the courtyard.  Very sweet and very romantic.  

The bottom line, however, is that San Martin the town is not much of a destination and to get to Mendoza or around to the vineyards and up into the Andes you really have to have a car.  If you tried to see Mendoza and stay in town for the typically late and lingering Argentinian dinners, it would not be a fun bus ride home.  So, on the first morning after our arrival we rode the bus in to Mendoza and rented a car.  After that, we were set.  We stayed busy all day, with great recommendations of places to go and things to see, and then looked forward to getting back to Molino la Tebaida to relax and hang out with a glass of wine or a beer before a delicious dinner and bed.  If that sounds good to you, this place is perfect.  Oh, and do take a peek at the olive presses and bottling facility on the premises, which Miguel and Isabel restored with vintage lumber, windows, presses, and hardware, and the bring a bottle (esp the earthenware crock) of olive oil home as a gift or souvenir.

We made a reservation to stay in this "heaven of peace" like the description on tripadvisor sais, aswel as revieuws....what a surprise to get there, we where sure that the gps made a mistake as we where at 100m from the final destination and driving true garbich, dust and slumps with a terrible smell comming in the car. When we reached the place, some people came outside and i could not do anything else than asking "what is this smell?" they looked at me as if i came from mars and said "what smel?" it was like rotten egs, realy turning our (4 people) stomach around.
the patio looked desserted since moths, they did not even took the time to clean the patio, for twoo rooms, each tree days, you would think that in winterseason they would do there best, no?
I asked if i could cancel the romos (normaly it was posible to do so for free) but they said that they had no internet and that i had to do it true internet. if you see the description of the hotel, its free internet everywhere?? so by the time we got to the city and had found a new hotel they had charged us already a full stay wich is normaly not posible!!!
Maybe this place is nicer in summer, i dont know but i can only say that our experience was terrible and that i have never seen such a durty place. And we had to pay for it?????
