The location of Posada don Juan is perfect! you have an incredible view of the mountain range. Also, you can admire the sunset sitting with your mate in the terrace. The rooms are very comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was included and it was delicious: toasted bread, fresh orange juice, fruit salad and a variaty of teas and coffee. 

Awesome in every sense 

Posada Don Juan is set in an idyllic environment with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.  Sitting on the little patio outside the room, sipping wine and gazing at the majesty of the mountains is wonderful.  The rooms are pleasant and the beds comfortable.  Breakfast was decent

.... but, it was next to impossible to sleep at night due to the stray dogs in Tilcara.  they were barking and howling through the night.

I realize this is not Posada Don Juan's issue ... and that other places in Tilcara likely suffer from the same problem .. but i am rating the entire experience .. and just as they gain points for the scenery, they lose them for the lack of sleep

The Posada is beautiful placed on top a a hill at the end of one of the main streets of Tilcara. It is very nice and clean. Breakfast could be better, was not very tasty, and wifi only works well in the reception/breakfast area. 
Was kind of odd that there is nobody around. Only the lady that received us, from who I have to say that she was nice and helpful. Although she was not the owner, she could gave us a remisse phone number to arrange our side trips to the different spots around as we stayed in Tilcara as a base. Even the day we left, the taxi picked us up, and nobody said good bye...
Also, the same lady arranged the changing of rooms, as we couldn't sleep the first night as many dogs barked all night. Once we were changed it was better.

Nice

Very good value!
Nice base to visit the botanical gardens next to Pucara Tilcara Inca Ruins, as well as the Garganta del. Diablo Canyon hike. 
We were glad that we stayed for 2 nights at this very nice hotel up the hill at the edge of town, away from its busyness. It felt like a quiet little haven. Nora the owner was most welcoming and helpful, giving us maps and tips about places to visit in OK English, which was appreciated as our Spanish is minimal. 
The rooms were in duplex cabanas, which were clean, bright and comfortable. Each had a small patio and chairs. Most had nice views across the valley. The open courtyard had trees and a terraced garden, with sitting areas, and parking was secure. Road a bit rough at the top but fine for a small car. 
The breakfast room also overlooked the valley, so it was nice to enjoy the views during the pretty good buffet. A sitting lounge was also nice for access to the internet. (Slow but adequate, and not usually in the room). 
Very worthwhile to do a day trip to the "Serrianas del Hornocal" at  Humahuaca, though it is a lot of driving, and not a good idea at night. Accomodations better at Tilcara.

Great value. Great location!

slightly more expensive than our average (but negotiate out of season) but well worth it. Calm, privacy, well-functioning bathroom, parking, decent patio, all with great views overTilcara. Good breakfast. Staff professional, pleasant and attentive.
