I thought this hotel looked quite expensive when booking it.  Having stayed there and at many other places in Argentina I now realise that it is very over-priced.

It provides bed and breakfast.  We had Room Number 8. The beds are very small, more like camp beds. The room is tiny and next to the boiler which clanged and groaned all night. It was stiflingly hot and the radiator wouldn't turn off.  We would have opened the window but for the loud traffic noise that continued virtually all night.  Perhaps the rooms at the front of the house are quieter?

The breakfast was abysmal.  The croissants were inedible, the bread was clearly the cheapest ever and there was even no butter (a fairly basic expectation) until, after two days' persistent pressure,  the owner finally followed our suggestion of buying some at the local supermarket where it had always been available.

The overall decor reminded me of our local crematorium but at least,  if you look out instead of in, the views are good.

If we were paying backpacker prices for this backpacker experience I would be less inclined to criticise.

Never Again

A nice little hotel only one block behind the main San Martin street and with a supermarket nearby to buy supplies and snacks. Easy walk to all the attractions in Ushuaia. 

The room was clean and warm ( very handy when it is -6c outside ). Wifi worked well. A continental breakfast is served in a pretty room with good views over the bay. All the staff were polite and friendly.

Nice little place

Had a one night stay in Ushuaia,  Arrived into town at 8 pm,  headed for a Antarctic cruise the next morning.   Just wanted a reasonable priced, comfortable place to stay.  Linares fit the bill,  room was warm,  turned off the heat and opened the window.  It was quiet, decent continental breakfast, and good wifi.   Not sure I would stay here for a week,  but this fit the bill perfectly

Good for my needs and for the price

When we entered this hotel we were quite amazed by the nice views and looked forward staying there. Our room was located right next to the engine room - causing a terrible noise during day and night. The room was also very very warm, even when we completely turned off the heating. All in all, we did not sleep well at all the 3 nights we stayed there.
The staff does hardly speak english. We tried to communicate via our limited spanish which often worked. However, we booked this hotel through a tour package and the tour operator had send to all of our hotels a note that I have to eat gluten free because of coeliac disease. In all hotels we stayed, there was something (rice crackers) I could eat. When we arrived in Linares, we asked in spanish if they gluten free breakfast was possible. Yes, I did not need to worry. The next morning,  I asked for the gluten free options and was answered they did not have any. The manager was called an he told us that they never received the note, but that they would provide breakfast the next day. However, the next day I was told that they would not 'deal with american dietary wishes'. This was inconvenient (I did not get any breakfast and had to go run to La Anonima before our tours started) but also insulting as I have to eat gluten free due to a medical condition, not a lifestyle choice. All, in all, it was not a friendly happy experience and we would not recommend this hotel.

Avoid room 9

We visited Hosteria Linares in mid-March. Our stay was part of a tour package, so I do not know exactly what the per-night cost was. 

The guest house was quiet and the staff were friendly, but spoke little English. This was not a problem for us because we were happy to pull out our books and try to communicate our questions and needs during our 3 night stay. They lock the hotel up from outside and to get in, just ring the bell. The facility is staffed 24/7 and they all know who should be there. Each room has a key, but upon departing the building you must turn it in.

Rooms were clean and had ample storage space. We had a wonderful view of the Beagle Channel and mountains. We had a single bed with private bathroom. They also have double twin bed rooms and I think they have a private bathroom as well. The bed was cleaned daily and fresh towels were available if you put them on the floor of the bathroom. Bathroom was very large and clean.

They have breakfast everyday, but it is very limited. Slices of cheese and ham, a variety of breads for toasting, different butter and spreads. They also had canned fruit, juice and milk. Hot coffee, hot water and hot milk was available.

Wi-Fi was really only available in main common room and in the dining room.

Steps to the main road were right around the corner and close access to restaurants, the waterfront, shopping and coffee with fast wi-fi. 

We enjoyed our stay. Thanks Residencia Linares, we will keep you in mind for our next visit to Ushuaia!
